Don't do it! I'm driving oil-field right now. It pays good but start time is 0530 and finish time is 2130 almost every day  I'm a night person...

Is this simply a knee-jerk reaction to DHL shutting up North American ops? Either way, I hope you guys are back on your feet ASAP.

Porter is still a bit shy of qualified candidates, First Air may add a few people to their Yellowknife base, Sunwest is still on the lookout for a few good aviators as well.

If you can get pogey, you can get the free transport truck driver's licence. I did! Seriously. You get full pogey while you're bombing down the road in an 18-wheeler. Sweet deal. Enjoy your time off. The key to successful unemployment is to do something every day. Return movies to Blockbuster. Walk to the store for a bag of chips. Leave the house at least once a day to do something. That's my advice. And I may be at the soup kitchen with ya soon.

Sudbury is starting to take a shit now. Nickel prices tanked and mines are laying off, suppliers laying off.

My boss said we could be looking at quite a slowdown. I keep asking him to lay me off so I can ride the pogey train, but he keeps saying, "@#$! you! Get back to work," for now.

Season pass in hand, itching to hit the hills!

As to the main topic, lots of jobs around, brush this off, take the experience that you got, and pick a job that you think you'd like.

Good luck.

Sadly there will be more layoffs in the whole company, employees will be notified in the coming week and many of the lay-offs will be effective after the holidays. Of course with the downturn in the economy, CJ had re-negotiated all their contracts with customers and changed routes to fit these new plans. As Ajay has said this week, we are making money but adjusting to the market and it's demands. It is a small comfort to know that we are working for a company that is being proactive and not reactive as most companies tend to be. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has showed up for work one day to find the doors locked and all the signs taken down without one word from the management. That being said, best of luck to everyone (myself included) and hopefully everyone will either be called back really soon or find some other place to work.

There is a strong potential of a huge hiring binge at First Air over the next year. 767's may be near yet no getting rid of all 727's as they frequently fill in for eastern 737's that can't do the job plus a good chance of more Herc guys needed. And who doesn't want to get the chance to fly a Herc for a couple of years.

Yeah I was just reading that cargo airlines usually pickup during recessions because businesses don't want to hold a lot of stock. Wonder how Kelowna Flightcraft and Morningstar are doing?

Anyways, cheer up and welcome to the club. Been on pogey more times than I can remember. Gotta love aviation!
