Hockey Teams Travelling
Does anyone know who the Canadian hockey teams fly around with? AC, WJ, Private Jets??
Re: Hockey Teams Travelling
Most, if not all of them fly with Air Canada Jetz
Re: Hockey Teams Travelling
All the Canadian hockey teams fly with Jetz as do the Raptors. I believe the Bruins use it as well.

Re: Hockey Teams Travelling
I dunno, I had a dozen clowns with hockey bags headed back from Tuk the other day on the Otter. They didn't look happy, or co-ordinated.
Anyone know if the Leafs had an exhibition game up here?

Re: Hockey Teams Travelling
It depends on the team. Some rich owner's have their own jets (Red Wings, Blue Jacket). Some teams charter a sport team aircraft like Sky King, Jetz(Air Canada) or some teams will charter any airline. I did fly Colorado Avalanche from Vancouver to Edmonton then Calgary last week. We have flown several teams across Canada and the USA over the last few years. We don't have a contract with any team mind you, it happens when it happens. So it hard to answer your question unless you have a specific team in mind.
Rectum, damn near killed 'em

I flew the Avalanche down to Calgary a week and a half ago after they beat Edmonton on HNIC.DA900 wrote:I did fly Colorado Avalanche from Vancouver to Edmonton then Calgary last week.
We have done many adhoc NHL and CFL charters.

All 6 Canadian teams use AC Jetz. 64 seat A320's.

I was parked by a 737 BBJ in KPIT last winter and saw the Penguins boarding it. Other than a nice cream colour and a green speed line there was no logo to say who owned or operated it.

Twenty years from now you'll be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the things you did do.

Re: Hockey Teams Travelling
As well as flying all 6 Canadian NHL teams, the Raptors, and the Bruins, Air Canada Jetz will be doing the Milwaukee Bucks starting in January.
Re: Hockey Teams Travelling
I don't understand how they can fly around American teams? If an American airline was flying our guys around, I think we would all be a little pissed.

Re: Hockey Teams Travelling
I know some major sports teams share the same jet. Earlier this year in Edmonton I saw the Texas Rangers / Dallas Stars jet on the ramp. It was kind of cool, it had the Rangers painted on one side and Dallas Stars on the other. I actually thought it was a smart idea sharing a jet, spreads out the cost, etc. I didn't expect to see that kind of logic from rich people/teams that probably could buy their own.

I think if the Americans found out a Canadian airline was flying a U.S. hockey team around, their first question would be, Hockey? What the hell is hockey?Hoov wrote:I don't understand how they can fly around American teams? If an American airline was flying our guys around, I think we would all be a little pissed.
Flying a twin only doubles your chance of having an engine failure

When I am wrong, I have big shoulders, I can admit it. So, sorry Leafs fans, I was mistaken. It wasn't a hockey team. It was the Argos.just curious....on behalf of the greatest Canadian hockey team and myself....we are insulted by your comments.

I was trying to figure out why a bunch of clowns would be carrying hockey bags...all those big shoes and puffy clothes, I guess you gotta put them somewhere!

Re: Hockey Teams Travelling
Those two teams are owned by the same guy...Tom Hicks. So it kind of makes sense to have one jet. I am sure he has other jets too, as he also owns half of FC Liverpool, and a huge financial firm.Fox 3 wrote:I know some major sports teams share the same jet. Yeah just watch CBC every Saturday night at 1900, they're the only Canadian team that plays.jetav8r wrote:just curious....on behalf of the greatest Canadian hockey team and myself....we are insulted by your comments.

Do you have much time for socializing with the players ?DA900 wrote:It depends on the team. Some rich owner's have their own jets (Red Wings, Blue Jacket). Does each time charter its own Air Canada Jetz plane? Cause I notice on the canucks photos there are canucks logos on the seats. I am assuming you don't go through changing the logos as every team boards? Also, what kind of crew gets to fly these guys around? A certain experience or seniority level?

Re: Hockey Teams Travelling
Actually it makes sense that the rich private owners would make sensible financial decisions, that's probably a factor in...why they're rich.
Now if the Canadian government owned a hockey team, a committee would be put together, and after several years of careful studies would determine that the best way to move the players around would be to purchase a Challenger 604 for each player, and would insist the flight crews would be entirely bilingual left-handed physically disadvantaged lesbian women of colour. After operating for several years at massive losses the fleet would then be sold to a rich private owner for 1 dollar.
@FICU,
What type a/c were you flying the Avalanche around on? I have to admit your nickname has me curious as it matches the reg of a LR35 that used to be operated by that fine company CGAA (insert sarcasm here), may they burn in hell, I mean rest in peace.

Re: Hockey Teams Travelling
They dont have their " own " Jetz A320 per se, but get assigned the same one as much as possible.
I've only seen them switch a/c once or twice, most of the time each team gets the same plane every time they go. The team logos are usually just the greasy-head-pads on the seats and other cabin kit ( pillows, blankets, coloring books, etc ) that can be swapped out quickly if need be.
I dont think I've ever seen the US charter outfits flying US teams within Canada, but have seen Air North and WJ haul them around for domestic legs and then their US carrier picking them up again for the trip back stateside.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but a US carrier, charter or no, can't go point to point within Canada, thats cabotage, n'est pas?

A lot of U.S. teams use their own aircraft to fly within Canada. It can be done.5400AirportRdSouth wrote:They dont have their " own " Jetz A320 per se, but get assigned the same one as much as possible.

737-200.
I flew ICU before *that* outfit got their hands on it! I doubt anyone from CGAA management is resting very well these days!
