YCC plates and Cornwall IFR school
Hey just curious if you can get Approach Plates online? I have looked and googled it to death with no luck. Maybe someone smarter could tell me. I would go buy some or find an old copy at an airport but I am stuck for a month in a area with no flight school.
Also how good is Cornwall Aviation? The gentleman that does the rides, is he fair? Is the school out to hose anyone? What is the deal with the Garmin 430? Do they still give you a regular flight test? I was hoping someone could tell me what the instructors are like and the usual 411.
thanks all for reading and posting.

Duffman: Hey Duff lovers! Does anyone in this bar loooove Duff?
Carl: Hey, it's Duffman!
Lenny: Newsweek said you died of liver failure.
Duffman: Duffman can never die, only the actors who play him. Ooh yeah!

I have 2 rides in the past with Cornwall, and they were a great bunch, the Gentleman who does the rides is extremely fair (if it is still the same guy). I did not see or feel like they were trying to screw me at all...
Might have changed since 2004 but if its still the same owners (the Smalls) they are a great group

Re: YCC plates and Cornwall IFR school
You ask odd questions. The gentleman that does the rides, is he fair? Is the school out to hose anyone?
The gentleman that does the rides has been doing rides for about 35 years now. He doesn't get a commission on failed rides. At this stage in his life, his CF pension takes care of the financial needs, he does this because he likes it. If you fail a ride, it won't be because he flunked you. It will be because you failed to adequetely prepare.
As for the school. Think about the location: Nobody comes to Cornwall because of its proximity to big cities or fresh air. They might come to buy smuggled cigarettes from across the river, but that's a different market from the flying school crowd. So the only thing they have going for them is word of mouth advertising. 'Hose' people, and that all goes away.
Well before you go to this or any other school, do your homework. The numbers for the aircraft. The Cap Gen. The Approaches you are going to fly. Garmin 430 manuals and training are available on line. You have to know how to complete the checks for IFR flight for all the navaids on the panel. Including the IFR GPS.
Your ride is 2 approaches. One likely flapless, the other single engine. The GPS if used will have you hold on one fix in the approach, then continue the approach to the MAWP, then set up and fly the missed approach, then come back to your originating field for an approach to land. If one is flapless, the other will be S/E. There is no magic in this. Know the systems and the aircraft. Be concise in your briefings. Fly what you brief. Know all the emergenices which have drills.
KNow this stuff before you get there, and your ride is already 3/4 done.
Re: YCC plates and Cornwall IFR school
Did my initial IFR at Cornwall this past March (2008) and absolutely loved it there. Fantastic place- they treat their customers and their employees well there. Instructors were good. Examiner was helpful and very fair. The Manager of the school even helped to find me accomodation for my week there. They are not one these flashy places that promise the world and then screw around when you get there. They do what they advertise (within the limits of the wx)- they get you in and get you done. I was there for about 9 days- 2 days were a write off b/c of wx but the other 7 days I flew 2-3 times and was kept busy. All in all, it was totally worth it to go there. Can't say enough good stuff about the place. If you go there you will not be disappointed. Any more questions- just PM me.
