The quickest way to go from a float to another on a Beaver

Look at this video I made of myself going from a float to another on the DHC-2 Beaver...I learned it from a old bush pilot...

If you wanna try, make sure the prop hub is clear of oil and water...

Nice Moves!!!! Do you actually use this other than when you are at the dock? i can't imagine attempting a tough offside docking while full of passengers... pull the mixture, mags off, steer it as best you can, out the door to the front of the float and........ SPLASH!!!!! Pilot in the drink and Beaver shooting past the dock and into the trees... So, is this something you actually use or just a way to show off your moves on you tube?

i wish.. itd save a lot of time...might be hard to hold onto the window cleaner while doing it, though.

I never use it on a move, but in the morning when you want to oull out water of floats,,,you gain time. The pilot how teach me that says that it use it almost all time...you got to be tall for working good on this...

No chance,..no grip, some hubs are bigger than this one, but they are harder to do to...the smaller the better...(not always it life)...

That is a prop dome not a hub...

There is an even more secure way to do it, though not quite as quick (can be with practice), and it works with a 3 blade. The bottom of the cowling is secured directly to the cylinder heads, very secure. You start with yer left hand on bottom of cowling (if this was rock climbing it would be a "bomber mega pocket", solid), left foot out as far as possible on forward horizontal float strut, layback position. Right hand over left in a crossover move, a quicktime shuffle of the feet, and an easy pull up on the fwd diagonal strut on the offside with your left hand. Voila! The prop should be straight down on a 3, same for a 2.

Not saying I have used this for offside docks, but you could for shore.

Don't have a lot of experience with Beavers but isn't the bottom cowl just resting in a couple of grooves on the bottom cylinders just like the top cowl? And the two halves secured with four 1/4" T-bolts in quick releases held in some light gauge tin?

Methinks a good start-of-season practical joke (you know, just after the ice has gone, and the water's nice and cold!) would be to put a thin coating of lightweight oil on the prop dome of glideric's machine! Just make sure the camera's running!

The hub is certainly strong enough for that kind of manouver, but the cowl as iflyforpie already mentioned is only attached to the other cowl........and for the price of them I don't think it's a good idea to hang off them (at least when the owner is looking).

I beg to differ. The bottom of the cowl is tied right into the jugs. Check it out (unless older Beavs are diffferent)

So that's how dents get on the inside of floats...lol. Not exactly what I would do, the front cable makes more sense to me. Too many things to go wrong.
