At least there won't be any chance of them hitting a tree...

That should be fun for everyone there, they practice over the straight in front of my place each spring always, interesting to watch.

OMG! Trees!

The Snowbirds will be performing at the Lethbridge Air Show on July 25, 2009. We cut down our trees in Lethbridge because they block our view of Airdrie.

Those are bushes.....

I lived in Airdrie - it's best place in Canada to go if you're allergic to trees....

Why don't you post a wide-angle shot?

Now that would be a good place to start budget cuts. Just curious but how many on here got into the airforce or aviation for that matter because of a demo team?

I live out on the West Coast now, have for a few years, Power Liver to be exact on the sunshine coast.

All the bagging on Airdrie aside, lived in Lethbridge for a while too - loved it.

I for one owe my love of flying to watching the Snowbirds when I was young.

They sure where one of my big reasons, almost religiously attended the Abbotsford Air Show every year when I was a kid. Always wanted to be Snowbird 5 or 6 the Solo Birds!

It's too bad you got caught with that weapons grade plutonium at the Peace Arch in highschool... sorta sunk your military career before it started.

It's sad whenever someone starts spreading that thought. Stop and think a bit more about it. For Canadians, at almost every airshow that is held across the country the first thing people wonder is if the Snowbirds will be there. They are a sure thing for increasing airshow attendance because they have always put on such a great display. That increases the ticket take and definitely helps the bottom line. Economics aside, they are a source of pride. They are a team that travels with large contingent of aircraft and almost no support personnel. As a squadron they are the squadron-lite of spendthrift units. Saying the government should use the Snowbirds to make a budget cut is like saying the airlines should remove a peanut from the onboard snack to save money.

Having a standard that pilots lose their licence after making a mistake despite doing no harm to aircraft or passengers means soon you needn't worry about a pilot surplus or pilots offering to fly for free. Where do you get your experience from?

The snowbird teams that I have had to deal with at airshows is not what I want representing the country. The audience sees one thing, precision flying, those behind the scenes see the arrogance and the " I'm better than you attitude". I agree that cutting them is small potatoes in the big picture. Just don't like to have my stuff broken by people whose salary I help pay and then when you go to headquarters you are laughed off. I thought at one point that meeting them would be neat as I too only saw the shinny side. I could care less if I ever saw them again.

I've dealt with them several times over the years, and I agree 1000%, besides how many Demo teams around the world fly an aircraft that's no longer in service........

I try and deal with living in Naniamhole the best I can STL, when I get really depressed I sit in my hot tub and look out across the valley hoping that some day I can live in a decent place.

It gets worse swordfish because I have two other pieces of property that are really poor locations.....here is my wife standing on our waterfront property in Gilliams Newfoundland last summer.

The Snowbirds are as much, if not more, a recruiting tool than just an aerial demo team.

Your place is pretty nice Cat, I love the view from the kitchen, but it's the rest of the town that could use a bit of work! Just too many Malls, when did that happen anyway?

I don't have it too bad here either, part of my view, I'll have to have you over for lunch next time:

(I can even watch the Snowbirds do their thing from here... ;-) )

Somewhere between those coastal places was the place I called home for a summer, Port McNowhere. Fun stuff though.

Aside from family and few good buddies, Avcanada is my only connection with Canada on a regular basis. I traded in flying out of Okotoks and living in Canada for having to put up with this scenery.
