I just had a running application for over a year but kept updating it. Update your application every month is what I was told to do. Keep an eye on the amount of "views" to your resume as well. I heard when I got hired that 2 or more views was a good sign. I had 2 or 3 when I got called, good luck!
sweet, I got 4 views since last week!

Also make sure your resume is "nonsearchable" which means that only those jobs you have applied for will "view" your resume. If it's searchable you'll get emails and views from other employers that have searchs that match your listed skills set, that may throw off your count.

Hey Folks,
If a fellow does get on with Jazz and opts to commute, do the travel benefits kick in right away or do you have to wait until your gs or line in doc is done?

"as a new hire can you actually commute?"

Yes.

"if so how many days per month would you be away from home?"

Depends. If you are on reserve...which you most probably will be, it depends where you live and where you are based.

As pourdu said reserve get 12 days off per month. You could bid to have your days off bunched together to facilitate commuting but you may occasionaly have a single day off stuck in there. Also, you will have to commute in the day before if you're reserve A and may not catch the last flight out on your last day of reserve depending on your assignment. As you can see, a lot of your days off will be lost so you definitely won't be home for 12, I'm guessing between 7 and 9 depending on your sched and where you commute to.

First groundschool in March I hear.

I'm pretty sure it is pass privileges only between your base and your 'home' airport (ie YYZ-YYC or YYZ-YOW etc...). I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you still have to wait for 6 months for the full package.

Your passes kick in from day one and you can use them for anywhere. There are no restrictions. I commuted during line indoc and for my first 6 months with no problems. It is doable just not a lifestyle that I liked personally.

The jumpseating (ie. OAL, other airline agreement) passes take 6 months for you to obtain. But your travel priviledges start day 1 of your g/s, at least that's how it was last year.

I've never actually used another companies jumpseat, but how would they know your start date if you use your license and RAIC as identification?

C-HRIS: Your correct about the 6 month wait for the OAL tickets. The jumpseat stuff starts from the day you get your red pass.

sorry, I still a bit confused here. Your travel benefits kick in on the first day of ground school correct?

also when you guys opt to commute, how exactly does it work. You lets say live in YOW and are based in YYZ. So whenever you work, you just commute back and forth between yow-yyz. How does that work? Are you put up somewhere in yyz? what if you bid and dont end up getting all your shifts bunched together? Just hoping if someone would clarify on how this works.

Correct! your flight benefits kick in your first day of ground school.
If you want to commute, it is your responsibility to get to work on time. That means checking the loads and wx, making sure you can show up on time for work. Where you stay while in YYZ is up to you, there are quite a few crashpads around the airport in YYZ. Bidding all depends on where you sit on the list, if you are fortunate to get all your days bunched up and likewise for days off that will save you less time commuting. If your talking about going home during groundschool and sim. You get the option of going home on a pos ticket or staying in your hotel in YYZ. Jazz pays the bill for all that while in training.

Good to know. They made changes to the pass system during the 05-07 hiring 'blitz'. Just playing the devil's advocate here, but make sure you ask and get a clear answer about it during your interview process, just in case they have changed things again since the hiring stopped. It's Air Canada's pass system, so they can change the rules at their discretion. You could try to get the info from the Jazz pass bureau in YHZ if you wanted the black and white of it all.

It's nice to have that ability now from day one to travel. Good luck applicants.

Jay (and anyone else getting a call)

Here is a list of sample questions from an old thread. They pretty much summed up my interview perfectly. There are some duplicates, so just weed thru these questions and try to come up with an honest answer. You'll probably be asked about 10-15 questions or so and they'll most likely resemble something from below.

Personnel conducting the interview wanted specific examples from you’re career when
answering the questions. Follow the SPARE
S – Situation Briefly describe the situation where the problem occurred.
P – Problem State the problem faced.
A – Action State what you did to resolve the problem.
R – Results What happened (good or bad, successfully or unsuccessfully).
E – Experience What you took away or learned from this event.
S/P – Situation / Problem
A – Action
R – Result

It starts on day 1 of Groundschool. I believe it's about $36000 a year to start. After all your deductions I think it's about $2000 a month plus per diems of probably between $300-$700 a month once you start flying the line. Not sure if per diems are paid during training.

Yes per diems are paid during your training. I dont think its the regular pilot rate though and I dont really remember what they were. Hotel and travel is all taken care of all throughout your training.

COngrats,

Your on your way to:
making 900 bucks every 2 weeks. Cant even whipe your ass with that...
Getting shafted by benefits cause they go up every year and ALPA does nothing about it.
Living in a crash pad while all your other friends are earning a descent income with real paying jobs and nice homes.
Paying close to 100 bucks a month to ALPA which is worthless.
Gettting your pay deducted so much that you cant justify even showing up for work...

Dont worry things will get better with the next contract.
GOOD LUCK...

hey qwert, do you or have you ever worked for an ALPA carrier? what would you like ALPA to do about it? what do you think ALPA could do about it? Why do you think ALPA isn't worth 1.94 of your income?
