vancouver port question
If you get a vancouver port , how many of your parings will actually be out of yvr ?
thanks
thanks
Re: vancouver port question
Vancouver port seems to be working out very well. From the guy's I know that port out of YVR, id say 3/4 of your sched would be out of Van. Hopefully someone who actually ports out of there will answer your question in more detail. Another thing would be to bid for YVR overnights. That too will get you home more often. Cheers!
Re: vancouver port question
You don't "get" a YVR port. If you want to live in or around Vancouver that is great, you can sign up to be a "porter". You bid your schedule every month. If all you want is port flying put that as your number 1 choice. Most guys/gals that do this get 100% of their flying out of YVR. If days off are more important, put those in the top of your bids, you may/will get more flying out of YYC. However, with more and more flying being done out of YVR the port flying seems to be increasing for everyone, regardless of bidding. Hope this helps...

Re: vancouver port question
i've been porting for almost 2yrs out of yvr. up until a few months ago i was getting half port, half yyc flying. the last two months have been all port - mostly 1 and 2 day pairings. it's nice.

I love a good Port after an awesome steak. Does that make me a "porter"?

Re: vancouver port question
I thought I heard some WJ YVR types were bidding on Vancouver overnights vs porting and that was actually working out better for people who lived close to the airport.
Has that changed, or was I misinformed to begin with?

Re: vancouver port question
it all depends on what you want in life. If you bid overnights at your own port, you will get them. If you live close to the airport, great, if you need to be home more often than the usual amount, even better. For the people who don't want to be constantly driving back and forth to work and only care about reducing the commuting stress(to YYC)... even better!
