Pilot Distribution
Wondered if anyone can enlighten the topic, i.e. what percentage of pilots live in Calgary and the balance by province and/or major city?

Re: Pilot Distribution
By my unofficial, but reasonably accurate count, 42% of pilots commute. I used the PORT stats that are e-mailed out every month and then added up on my fingers the guys whom I know to commute but do not or cannot (due to location) utilize a PORT.
It looks like most commuters live in YVR. The rest are distributed evenly from Comox to St. John's.

Just because you're not paranoid, doesn't mean no-one's out to get you.
Re: Pilot Distribution
What I couldn't believe was that we have 11 commuting from YYT now. That can't be easy.
Re: Pilot Distribution
Any commute can be hard. I do it from YHZ. Some days are diamond...some days are stone.
I've had more commuters in the jump between YLW/YYC than anywhere else by a large margin.

Re: Pilot Distribution
Any commute from the east is a whole lot easier than watching the value of your home drop by 10s or 100s of thousands of dollars.

Well worth every extra minute spent in airplanes/ports...don't know why I waited so long to make the move home.WJ700 wrote:What I couldn't believe was that we have 11 commuting from YYT now. That can't be easy.
Is your 11 commuters including FAs? Just curious.

Don't forget about our Springdale commuter...

Re: Pilot Distribution
This coming from the guy who sold me his Christmas leg for YVR-YYC... thanks again for that. I made it out of the YVR deice facility just 3 days ago, we had to wait for spring.SMP wrote:Well worth every extra minute spent in airplanes/ports...don't know why I waited so long to make the move home.WJ700 wrote:What I couldn't believe was that we have 11 commuting from YYT now. Yes, but it is all relative. my 280k is now worth 210K.

You made it out??? I'm living in that green thing down by the international food court. I did what any sensible person would do when snow hits the lower mainland....I'm hibernating until May!!!!WJ700 wrote:This coming from the guy who sold me his Christmas leg for YVR-YYC... thanks again for that. Thanks again for the PU and I take back all those things I said about you when I was sitting watching a 1/2 sm in SN @ YVR for nine hours.

Re: Pilot Distribution
The Commuting Pilot's 3 Laws of Commuting
1. Commuting is as easy as one makes it out to be, to non-commuters
2. Time spent commuting to work is not tiring for the purpose of duty time regulations
3. Calgary sucks

Re: Pilot Distribution
Commuting for almost 9 years. When I started at WS we had 12 planes and something like 4 flights a day from YYC to YVR. It sucked. Now, I believe we have 15 flights a day between the two cities (a couple go through YLW) and 16 with Air Canada. 31 chances to get to/from work. Not too bad. Anything is better than living in YYC. Sorry fellow YYC workers. Now, trying to get to work from YLW would be tough. Isn't that right Mr Dangerous...

Yes Dave, it is a challenge. 6 weeks in to the new year and I've already bought two round-trip confirmed flights to get to work. Remember me at profit sharing time.
It was nice checking in and choosing my seat online. Funnily enough I still chose the aisle seat right beside the rear lav. Those CSA's sure have me trained!!

Re: Pilot Distribution
In honor of a certain Newfoundlander, originally from Nicholsville, who recently made the decision to cease commuting and move to the YYC area.
