Mean pay for Airline Pilot: $134,090

Whenever I read top paying job lists, pilot is always near the top. It's always posted with a mean salary between 100-198k a year. As a mean...
Meanwhile it seems like everyone in aviation would concede that making 150k a year flying is not the "average".
It gets me wondering why practically every source has such a high number, consistently, every year.
Does anyone know why the average pay always work out to be such a large number in these lists, when I've always heard something like 150k or 198k to be more of a high end outlier?

And there you have it its majors only and captain pay only those stats. Take AC for example your embraer captain probably makes 90-100K while a senior 777 captain can close on 200K so the mean would be 150K. Tada This study whas conducted by C-GGGQ as a whole subsidiary of the University of you F-ing wish.

i read on the intertnet that the man average for commercial pilots in the united states was $ 133,967 it was number 2 behind surgeons and physicians!!

some pilots make $220,000- like really experianced pilots i beleive pilots for AC with 12 + years experances flying the 777 make 200 +

does it take into account piston pilots, which comes in at 20-40k a year, and a bit shy of that figure. sounds more like a large jet operator average. hell, if one pays for their own training and bond, the stat may come up negative for the first years

I would have to think they are referring to 705 airline Captains only.

Across Canada I would bet that the average Boeing and Airbus Captain would be bringing in 140K to 150K.

Of course you can't include Canjet because they pay their Captains shit.

I guess being a career aviator is like the guy who goes into by a Maserati - if you have to ask the price -- you can't afford it -- there will be a good percentage who will work over 20 years in the industry before they see a hundred grand

* Flight Instructor - $12-40K
* Chief Flight Instructor - $35-60K
* Charter Pilot Piston-Aircraft - $20-50K
* Charter/Corporate Turbine Aircraft - $25-80K
* Third Tier/Commuter Airline - $35-85K
* Regional Airline - $35-100K
* Major Airline - $75-265K
* Corporate Jet Captain - $55-$150K

The top pay per flying hour would have to be at TC, if you divide hours flown into your salary and perks.

10,000(give or take) pilot jobs in this country. 3,500 at AC, 1,200 at WJ and another 1,400 at JAZZ. Anyone at AC with more than ten years on the job is doing 120k+ no matter what they are on and most after three years are getting 80k. The numbers tell it all, if tomorow you find yourself flying off gravel , snow covered lake or water you are by far in the minority.

PS. If TC is the highest paid per hour then the fire biz is next in line.

They take the top 75% of the drivers at Cathay, Air France, SAS, QANTAS, and BA, and divide it by the top 25% of AC drivers. Then you subtract the median of the bottom 25% of AC, Ryanair, Easy, Southwest and WJ, and then you get the realistic figure.

Simple. Everyone else knows the formula...why shouldn't we?

Well your subject does say Airline Pilots. So I would assume it doesn't include anybody below a Tier III carrier and may not even include them.

All AC captains (except EMJ) make more than $134k. Some significantly more. Even the EMJ guys are only a bit below $134k. All the widebody FOs probably average out pretty close to $134k. That just leaves narrow body FOs and RPs below.

If they're including profit share and stock options, I'm sure the average WJ pilot makes more than $134k.

Those 2 groups account for the majority of "airline" pilots in Canada, even if you include Tier III.
