Minimums
Hi everyone,
I'm a long way off from applying to WestJet, but I was just curious about the minimums for which they will accept an application? I do realize that they generally only hire well above these minimums, but I'd like to know how soon I'll be able to get my name on file!
Cheers!

Re: Minimums
You can actually disregard that question because I found the minimums on workopolis. I do have a question about the PIC and second officer time. When they refer to second officer, are they talking about someone who is logging time before they have their ATPL? Do you think they would in any way, wave the PIC time for more hours as an F/O?
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
Re: Minimums
A Second Officer is the guy that sits back seat in a plane like a 727, regardless of license type.(as far as I know)

Re: Minimums
i think the 1.000 pic is a must and no matter how much f/o time you have, it can not be counted towards the 1.000 pic required. I might be wrong so , but that's what i read in another post..
Re: Minimums
the min PIC time is absolute. More right seat time won't matter since it's the 'Command' time we're after.
Re: Minimums
Thanks very much for the info! Going to have to rethink my career path a little!
Re: Minimums
And this is why it's not a bad thing to start small and work your way up. Guys are typically so gung ho to get into the right seat of a turboprop(or better) and forget to get that 1000 multi-pic for 'down the road' purposes.

Re: Minimums
Geez, i've never heard that one before. Was it that they charged you 25 bucks to drop off your resume? I find that hard to believe. How long ago did they have this in effect?

Re: Minimums
i didn't know that they had decided not to charge for applications anymore and i think they did this from the very beginning. i thought it reflected poorly on them so i'm very happy to hear that they halted the practice years ago. very progressive.

Re: Minimums
That time frame sounds about right. It was to prevent guys like me who didn't have 5000 hours at the time from applying(I did anyway, and it was a waste of $25).

Re: Minimums
The minimums have been lowered to 1500hrs Total Time as of February 11th on Workopolis. With 3000 applications already on file (meeting or exceeding qualifications), 800 possessing internal recommends and 10 to 12 pulled a month for interviews why are minimums being lowered? Just wondered cause it seems we're going to be seeing a market shift from "Pilot" to "Employer" in the next couple of months...
Re: Minimums
Wow! Great opportunity for someone with a fresh ATPL!!!
Maybe it's getting tougher to find higher time guys willing to sit in the right seat for who knows how long? Not currently, I might add, the current new hires are probably looking at 6-8 years, but in a few years it's going to be a lot longer.

Re: Minimums
It's definitely a tough call to leave a good paying job not knowing how long it will take to start making an equal amount of pay. For someone hoping to retire in 15 yrs or less, making 40G/50G/80ish(?) for yrs 1/2/3-8 is tough pill to swallow.Maybe it's getting tougher to find higher time guys willing to sit in the right seat for who knows how long?
I would doubt however that westjet is having a hardtime finding willing converts with 3000hrs. Maybe they're lowering to 1500hrs cause some HR or economics PhD is telling them to hire more youngins due to an impending labour shortage down the road.
Maybe it was something as simple as a hot chick with 1500hrs.

I'll buy THAT for a dollar!!!monkeyspankmasterflex wrote:Maybe it was something as simple as a hot chick with 1500hrs.
Seriously though maybe demographics do play a part, who knows. I know we're not generally hiring people with the minimum hours, so why else would they drop the min?

Re: Minimums
I'd pay 25 bucks now to get the return on investments that those pre-2000 pilots did
