Aéroport Med V : un Commandant de la RAM évite une catastrop

L’aéroport de Casablanca Mohammed V aurait pu connaitre le 1er mars dernier une des plus grandes tragédies aériennes de l’histoire de l’aviation, si ce n’est le professionnalisme et la réaction spectaculaire d’un CDB de la RAM de l’intérieur de son cockpit !
Vers 08h50 un avion de Jetairfly, affrété par Jet4you, a été autorisé à atterrir sur la piste 35 Droite (35R) avec un temps brumeux et une visibilité de 6 Km. En ce moment là, 4 avions de la RAM étaient alignés sur le taxiway (aire de roulage) en attente de leurs autorisations de décollage.

Le Commandant de Bord du 1er avion en attente a remarqué l’alignement étrange du Jetairfly sur le taxiway au lieu de la piste d’atterrissage en service. Ne voyant pas de réaction de la part de cet avion pour corriger sa position et son dangereux rapprochement vers les avions en attente de décollage, le CDB RAM a alors saisi son microphone et a hurlé sur la fréquence de la tour de contrôle : « Go Around ! Go Around ! (…) you’re aligne d on the taxiway ! » (Remettez les gaz ! Remettez les gaz ! … vous êtes aligné sur l’aire de roulage !).
Le Jetairfly était à une altitude de 200ft (60m) ! Le temps d’initier la remise de gaz l’avion est passé à environ 100ft (30m) au-dessus des avions RAM, alignés sur le taxiway, puis est revenu se poser sur la piste d’atterrissage.
« Monsieur, vous venez de sauver la nation ! ». C’était la phrase du contrôleur aérien pour conclure cet incident…

Incident: Jetairfly B738 at Casablanca on Mar 1st 2009, nearly landed on crowded taxiway

A Jetairfly.com Boeing 737-800 on behalf of Jet4You, registration OO-JAQ performing flight TB-533/8J-533 from Brussels Charleroi (Belgium) to Casablanca (Morocco) with 172 passengers and 7 crew, was cleared to land on runway 35R at Casablanca in foggy conditions but visibility of about 6000 meters and on final approach with 4 aircraft waiting for takeoff at the adjacent taxiway and holding point, when an unknown pilot called "Go Around" on the radio frequency, prompting the Jetairfly crew to abort the landing at around 200 feet AGL and initiate a go around. The airplane landed safely a couple of minutes later.

The "Association marocaine des pilotes de ligne" (Moroccan Association of Airline Pilots) reported, that the captain of the aircraft at the holding point (first to depart) recognized, the Jetairfly was aligned with the taxiway and not the runway and radioed the go around: "Go Around! Go Around! You are aligned with the taxiway!". After the arriving aircraft had gone around the tower controller radioed "Sir, you have just saved the nation!"

The return flight landed in Charleroi with a delay of 40 minutes as a result.

Jetairfly said in a press statement, that the flight landed normally. No safety report has been filed by Moroccan Authorities. Should a safety report be filed however, Jetairfly will conduct an internal investigation.

The Moroccan Office National des Aeroports (ONDA) said, that a serious pilot error brought the Jetairfly aircraft arriving from Belgium into danger of colliding with 4 aircraft waiting for takeoff. A safety report has been filed with the Moroccan Civil Aviation Authority.
