Nor-Alta
Hey Guys and Gals !
Just to clarify things, is Nor Alta looking for a pilot who will be captain on the Caravan and king air first officer at the same time, or those are two different positions ?
What I have understood so far is that they are looking for a minimum of 1000 hours for insurance purpose, for the van and then the guy will fly the king air as a copilot on a different shift.

Re: Nor-Alta
I'm not sure, but considering the positions are based at different places, it would be hard to do both, don't ya think?
Going for the deck at corner
Re: Nor-Alta
Well, I was thinking that you could have two different shifts.
But yeah I totally agree with you, it's very unlikely that such a thing could happen...

Re: Nor-Alta
Fort Vermilion and High Level are about 1.5 hours from each other. Could be a good gig as long as you weren't driving back and forth every other day. Something like a week in High Level then a week in Fort Vermilion then a week off might not be bad at all.
Re: Nor-Alta
they were hiring king air FOs with 500TT all of a sudden its 1000hrs? Comeon I was flying BE20s in the arctic with only 250 hrs.
Re: Nor-Alta
I don't think it's unreasonable to hire someone with 1000 hours for King Air fo and Caravan captain. Do some time at that and then go King Air captain. That's what they do at Nor-Alta.
Re: Nor-Alta
Do they at least fly your ass off or are you sitting most the time?
Re: Nor-Alta
You most likely will be flying both machines. When i worked there a few years ago when it was little red air service most people were checked out on a few machines. For example I was flying the C206 and right seat in the King Air. I would do sometimes I would do 2 weeks on the King Air and one week on the C206 then one week off. The odd time someone may have had to drive to high level or fort vermilion depending on where you were based to cover a medevac shift and by the way the drive is less than an hour.
As far as 1000 hours for flying Captain on a C208 and right seat in a King Air is by no means unreasonable. The flying can be challenging for example flying the King Air in to a 3000 ft gravel strip at 2am in the middle of nowhere in shit weather with pot lights for runway lights not exactly a place for beginners. Or even flying single piot IFR in the caravan again not a place for beginners.
Besides having to live in fort vermilion or high level its a good company to work for. Decent machines, decent people, and decent pay. You will be flying your ass off in the summer on the caravan as it is used for hauling freight to the reserves on a daily basis as well as used for charter work. King Air is medevac and well thats hit and miss as far as flying goes. It is an excellent place to work for a low timer (eg 1000 hours or less) to break into the turbine and IFR world. And the way things are going right now I would not hesitate to apply, so do it now!

I started doing that kind of flight with 500 TT.

Fly baby fly!!!
Re: Nor-Alta
I think 1000 hrs is too low a standard if it's for both those positions. 1500 is what I'd be asking for.
My ambition is to live forever - so far, so good!

Congratulations to you
Well the company can ask whatever they want for times, its there machines and I think its pretty reasonable.

Re: Nor-Alta
The positions are separate.
The King Air FO position will be full time medevac out of High Level. Medevacs are pretty steady throughout the year and you probably average 30 hours a month. The High Level base has three BE-20s, two of which are very well equipped with dual EFIS and what not.
The Caravan position is full time out of Fort Vermilion. It requires 1000 hours TT because it's for single-pilot IFR and you get sent down to Flight Safety for sim. In the summer time the Caravan is mostly for hauling freight and you probably average 80 hours a month. In the winter it's slower and most of your flights are crew changes to Fort McMurray.
Feel free to PM me for more details.
