Algonquin Turbo Beav Job
What are the details about the MNR Beaver job in Algonquin park? Any accommodation? What does the job mostly entail?

You get a nice cabin at the base on Smoke Lake. The job requires you to do park flying mostly. Lots of short trips with canoes strapped to the side. The clientel are great people.
IMHO it's one of the best Beaver jobs in the world.

Re: Algonquin Turbo Beav Job
that airplane is one of the reasons i became a pilot. i camped in algonquin with my family every summer until i was 19. we drove by smoke lake every trip and saw that beaver many times. one of the OMNR twin otters landed on big crow lake when my dad and i were canoeing across it on one of our many interior camping trips. i regret that i didn't pursue a job at the OMNR.
i used to help out in the OMNR dispatch center in YAM in 94. i can't recall the name of the pilot that flew it back then but he was a super guy. did neil in YSB retire?

Yes Neil retired 4 or 5 years ago. He has a part time job on a Caravan now.

Re: Algonquin Turbo Beav Job
John's in flying in Minnesota/ Alaska now flying for Matt Ziomek but still lives in YAM.
Ted I don't know which Ted but if it's the one I think it is, is a 415 Capt. in YHD
Red is the Senior pilot in YSB and would be the supervisor of the park pilot.
I don't know if those guys are still dispatching cause we don't talk to them much on the 415 program because our marching orders come from the fire program.
The park pilot from the 90's is still with us but now dispatches from Bondar because of a medical issue.
Hope that helps

I pass the water base 3 or 4 times a year. IMHO it's a postcard shot. What a neat setting. If they needed a greaser and I was 20 years younger.................
If you don't know,ASK!

Re: Algonquin Turbo Beav Job
So where is the magical job posting that we are all drooling over? Looked on the OPS career sites and nothing there. Looking for several airport operations managers though!

Beats me
There will be a Twin Otter job in YTS coming up soon I'd think.

Re: Algonquin Turbo Beav Job
Our DHC-2T jobs are seasonal contracts and not listed on the OPS website as they are direct hire positions .So if you are interested in these positions you need to be networking with our senior or chief pilot .Contracts six months or less do not reqiure an interview and do hold recall rights regardless of the aircraft type .

Re: Algonquin Turbo Beav Job
if i was looking for the job i would search for a number for the OMNR's office in sudbury. i would call them and explain that i needed to get in touch with the manager of the aviation operations in the area. if i lived within a few hours of sudbury i would drop in at their office at the airport and ask to speak to the fixed wing manager.

3000 hrs T.T. and 1000 hrs pic on floats.
The Park is a good gig and during the summer months OEH is the hardest working airplane at the MNR. You get a cabin on the lake, expenses and a dockhand.
300-350 hrs for the season and it's mostly .2's and .3's (with canoe) and a little telemety and fire flying mixed in. All of the park staff are good people and most of them have been climbing in and out of the beav for 20+ years so everyone knows what they're doing when it comes to loading/unloading on a shoreline.
When you do get time off, taking advantage of Algonquin Park's hiking, biking and fishing is the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.
Pretty sure we've picked one pilot up for a -2 contract...not sure if he's bound for Smoke Lake, but like DR said, expect to see a -6 spot in YTS opening soon.
