206 float rating

Im interested in getting a float rating on a 206. Anybody know of companies doing with the equipment that are operating this time of year.

Can't answer your question... but why would you want to do it on a 206??? Money to burn?

Actually I need to rid myself of the evil money I have left over after my CPL. I need some 206 time to secure a position. The float rating about covers it.

Ok a 206 is just a 185 with an extra seat. Your potential boss should be happy with that. Not sure if anyone rents out a 206 for training. Now a 206 on floats is more difficult to fly than a 185. So perhaps you can just find a 180 or 185 and load the crap out of it. (Disclaimer: I never said overload)

Also if you are not going to be working in BC, you could go out there before everyone else's season starts find someone with a 206 and pay to fly with them.

And the only person I know that owns a privately registared 206 is some guy that flys into Parry Sound. Its a newer 206 on Whips..... I can't remember his name but the nice People at Gerogian Bay Airway might know, or you could find him on the TC site. But this may not work with your timetable.

If you got cash to burn, and a possible job lined up; Do something extreme to get the job if you have too. Not many gigs out there this year. I would find someone in BC and get'er done.

You could try Fern Duquette with Kashabowie Outpost actually. They MAY be able to help you when the ice breaks up. You can google the company name probably.

I have been trying to do something extreme to attract attention but to no avail. I spent the last two months in East Africa looking for some work. Took my wife and two kids down there and dug myself an even bigger hole but did sniff out some great contacts. Next im going to try and stop by every float base I can and stand naked on the dock untill someone offers me a job so i will put my clothes back on. If that fails I will try and contact Fern Duquette. I am ready to fly out to the west coast and get this done on the hop. I will see if I can get a hold of someone out there.

Not sure I agree with that. It has been awhile since I flew either, but I have several thousand hours on both of these machines, and they fly differently. Because of the door arrangement, docking is a little different also.

The 185 training, though , will give you an idea, but it is not a 206.

If you have a job lined up, will the company not give you time in the 206? They have to do training anyway, so it does not amount to a great deal of extra time..The ground school portion will cover everything you need to know, and the flight portion will also cover everything

Why not discuss this with them..Just a thought.

I agree with Trey. The C206 and C185 are very different birds.

I was lucky. I spent my first season on a C206 and it had the full whipline mod with wing extensions and the "big" engine (I believe was an IO 540 derated to 300 HP)..like Trey said, its been a while since ive flown either a 185 or 206..but to compare the 206 to the 185 by calling it a 185 with an extra seat would be a gross mis-statement. The 206 can be a real dog on floats even with the whips. I flew a straight C206 that same season and it was quite amazing how different the C206 on whips was vs a straight one. The 185 is a performer and even over gross will do pretty much what you tell it to. Two very different aircraft IMHO.

I also agree with Trey in regards to speaking to your employer. Why wouldnt they want the revenue you would supply them.. by training with them? They would then be able to train you to their own company standards and "ways" and you would become familiar with the air service much quicker. Im sure if you present this to your new boss/chief pilot he would jump at the opportunity to get paid to train you ;) or is that opening a can of worms?

I will give them a call and see if training on their own aircraft is an option. As you said it would be ideal. Only problem I see would be that their 206 will be running steady once the spring break up happens. However I will still check in and see if the conflict will create issues for them. I think I will try my naked dock trick if they refuse.

The biggest difference, IMHO, is the flaps.
The flap handle on the 180/185 can be a godsend on sticky water.
A pull on the handle about lift-off makes a huge difference.
Very tricky to "pop the flaps" on the 206.

Most 206's also require a little more water or space landing. They are restricted to flaps 30 thus making them just a tad hotter on the approach.

Fuel system is also different, no both setting on the 206 just left or right.
Much easier to get the "load forward" in a 206, as you dont have to worry about blocking the flap handle.

The 185 has a trim stab, the 206 have a trim elevator. Triming that big old stab right back and then rolling it right forward helps get the old gal up and going.

This is a long shot.
Phone or email Corilair at Campbell River BC.They lease a C206 on Edo floats from Sealand, also from Campbell River.
This plane has a large prop and is a very good performer. Nearly a match for a 185.
I don't know if they would be interested but worth a try.
