#8 Wing at Trenton AFB is having an anniversary show and will be rededicating the BCATP Gate for the 70th anniversary of the BCATP.
I am supplying 5 vintage a/c for the gate ceremony.
The CAF organizer has repeatedly stated that this is not the Quinte Airshow but striclty a # 8 wing event.

Re: Trenton AFB
For the rededication of the BCATP Gates, we will fly a formatiomn of 3 Tigermoths in a "^" formation with two Fleet Finches (a 16B and a 16R).Hedley wrote:What types?5 vintage a/c
These were specifically asked for by the #8 Wing C.O. as they were the types used by the Wing in WW2.
VW of C will also provide some vintage a/c but I am not sure if they will fly or not. This is mostly a ground display show.
A/c will be arriving on the Friday afternoon , departing on Sun afternoon

Re: Trenton AFB
Hedley , what vintage a/c do you have access to and who owns them.Hedley wrote:Anyways. I would offer to bring some vintage airplanes, but
a few years ago, the organizers of the Quinte Airshow told me
that Transport told them not to let us fly, so I'd best stay away.
I provide aerial coordination/organization /safety for airshows, movies , commercial events etc and am always looking for people and a/c to use.
Also why was TC taking that stand ? We fly shows overseen by TC all the time and have not had any issues. At least not yet anyway (knock on wood!)

Re: Trenton AFB
Thats some crazy stuff can't imagine what their issue was unless someone in your group did something to piss them off. They don't just ban people without a reason.
I just finished the Amelia movie and they bent over backwards to accomodate us. Even let the US pilots I hired come up here and fly for hire w/out Air Transport License (?).
Oh well . I'll keep you i mind if something comes up.

Re: Trenton AFB
I just spoke to someone on the base at Trenton, it is July 4th and 5th and it is to be an open house type event, free of charge. He said there would be static displays, and a number of CF flying demos including the CF-18, Herc, C-17, Airbus, etc. The event is on the Snowbirds schedule. He said no civilian acts and no US acts. Not trying to contradict anybody here, just reporting what I was told.

Thats news to me.
I just submitted our 5 a/c and crew lists along with our flight and formation info. ( at their request).
In fact we have their Honorary Col. leading our flight.
Did you speak to the actual organizer incharge ( one man) or just some base personnel ?

Fern's not the Wing Honorary Colonel; just 8 AMS's. I'm sure he'll be a great formation lead though, he does have some experience at that!

You are correct. He was flying with us ( The Tigerboys) on Sunday and told me the same thing. My mistake , I thought he was H.C. for the whole wing.
At 82 yrs old , Fern is one steady pilot. When you watch him fly, the a/c looks like it is on auto pilot he is so smooth.
The best thing is that he has much to teach and doesn't mind sitting with you and allowing you to pick his brain a bit.
All together an all round gentleman and a good friend.

Re: Trenton AFB
I concur with all of the above. Fern is an inspiration to all of us in the flying community who know him. Many people still fly in their 80's but Fern flys solo, day and night and he needs no help from anyone to handle his own airplane on the ground or in the air. He flies formation (well!) without a co-pilot and he makes me wish I could land a taildragger on a short strip the way he does! He's 82! No doubt we'll ask him to be the Honorary Colonel for the Wing one day but we'll have to wait until he's old!fleet16b wrote:

For those who do not know, "Fern" is Fern Villeneuve, ex Golden Hawk lead and member of the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame. If you're under 50, Google him!

Re: Trenton AFB
At 82 , Fern owns and flies a Globe Swift which he keeps at Trenton in the summer and Hanover in the winter.
He often flies over to Guelph during the summer and flys various a/c for the Tigerboys.
Last year he flew the Swift to Oshkosh and from there out to Western Canada, then back to Trenton. Not bad for 82
Last Sunday I just landed my Fleet16r after the first flight of the year and there was Fern and his Swift sitting at the Tigerboys Hanger.
It was a great day and we all had fun dusting the cobwebs off after a long winter.
To learn from and fly formation with a Canadian Aviation Hall of Famer is always a privilage.

Re: Trenton AFB
Well, there is only one Officer in charge of the entire event and at present. We are scheduled to c/out a fly-by over the BCATP Gates at 12:00 noon om the Sat.Zone5ive wrote:I called the base asking for the contact person in this article and spoke with a military admin officer:

Unless this officer contacts me to change things, I'll have to say your source is wrong at present.
As I have said, they have asked me to supply 5 a/c for a fly-by over the gates. They have also requested copies of each pilots documentation and a/c documentation as per any flying show we do.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Re: Trenton AFB
It's all there in black and white. Major Camps is the Air Display Director. Here's a quote from the article in the post above:fleet16b wrote:Well, there is only one Officer in charge of the entire event and at present. Maj. Steve Camps, 8 Wing’s deputy operations officer, is overseeing plans for the air display.
During the Saturday parade, Camps said, “We’re going to have some form of a flyby of the vintage aircraft and current military aircraft and the Snowbirds.”
"flyby of vintage aircraft". That's the 5-plane. The theme is to showcase and celebrate Air Force aircraft. They want to include aircraft past and present and, since we didn't have the sense the RAF did, we got rid of all our past aircraft so the only civilian participants invited are those flying types the RCAF/CAF used to fly. So, if you want an invite, get yourself a Mosquito or a Yukon, I'm sure we can arrange a spot for you then!
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you!
Re: Trenton AFB
So if Herc 308 does a flyby- is that vintage or current?

Thanks for confirming what I have been saying all along.
Should be quite a memorable event as we don't see the Canadian Air Force go all out like this very often.
On a personal note, it will be a special event for me as I am hoping to have my Dad (90 yrs) at the Fly-by .
He flew Fleets and for a short time did his Instructor training at Trenton during the war.
