Thanks. Just so I understand correctly. You paid for your own food and housing?

I paid for food. I had clapped out trailer to use for free.

I tell all of my job hunting buddies to shoot for a minimum of 2.5k with food and accommodations, 3k with out. In my opinion, everyone is worth more than that ... but it seems to be what the going rate is for a rookie. There are worse paying op's out there though!

10-14hr days for most. A couple days off a month.

30 days in a month. If you're lucky we'll take a day off a week. That leaves you with 26.
26 X 10 = 260hrs
26 X 14 = 364hrs

$1500 @ 10hr days = $5.77/hr BEFORE TAXES
$1500 @ 14hr days = $4.12/hr BEFORE TAXES

$2000 @ 10hr days = $7.69/hr BEFORE TAXES
$2000 @ 14hr days = $5.49/hr BEFORE TAXES

$2500 @ 10hr days = $9.60/hr BEFORE TAXES
$2500 @ 14hr days = $6.87/hr BEFORE TAXES

$3000 @ 10hr days = $11.54/hr BEFORE TAXES
$3000 @ 14hr days = $8.24/hr BEFORE TAXES

I don't think its out of line to be asking for minimum wage chesty. Ask for 2.5-3k. Paying less seems criminal if you don't get the time off.

The real question is what does the "salary" pay for?. You can be damn sure that if you are getting $100+ a day, the boss is gonna have a god damn weedwacker, shovel or hammer in you hands when your not flying.
Some will pay a newbie $3000 a month but they'll work them right to the limits of the CAR's and very little of that will be flying.
14 Hours a day with 3 days off every 30. A guy can do a whole lotta real shitty tasks.
The great part about it is that being a pilot on a monthly salary it's all but out of the labour boards hands.

I worked a camp in Red for a few years as a 'do everything' guy, and according to chesty I was making a Beaver driver's salary on a 180. Sure when there was no flying I was doing a plethora of other things, but I'd prefer to have it that way and come away from the summer with decent coin rather than bumble around half the day all waiting for something exciting to happen. Then again being the only hired pilot wasn't bad either.

If you find the right camp or air service, pulling in 2500 should be pretty straightforward... but if you're caught up in 'chasing the dream' and would sell an appendage to work somewhere with a huge fleet (which in all likelihood you won't be progressing through because a better offer will come along next season when the realization of the value of a decent wage clicks in), then you're in luck because there are plenty of ops out there which would love to hire you for peanuts.

Actually I don't know this Adam guy but I must say that the very simple breakdown just says it all right there for ya. 3000/month for a 10 hour day is not even 12 bucks an hour. Shit that is still shitty. This argument has already been done a thousand times on here of course but I think you can still make decent pay if you actually sell yourself properly.

1500-2000/month and you should actually tell the guy to suck your dick....or va-JayJay. That is terrible. These owners want to pay you that, then that's what they're going to get.

By the way those numbers "chesty" are way off. 2500-4000 to fly a beaver. You don't have a clue. If anyone is taking a dime less than 4000/month to fly a beaver...they should be shot. And even considering 4000 on an Otter is ridiculous. Why would you take 4000 on an otter when you can get 5000 on a beaver. Like WTF...just do Adam's math...could you imagine 4000/month on an Otter....thats 15/hr at 10 hour days.

Anyway, if anyone cares, you can ask to join the Beaver Pilot Unioin Facebook group and occasionaly we talk about this sort of shit in there. One more thing, if you'll accept 1500/month, your worth 1500/month...which means your worth shit.

If you can't do the basic math to figure out what you are making an hour given 1500/mth at a minimum of 10 hours work a day... you are worth shit.

Boozy is 100% correct. Its pieces of trash that take these wages that ruin things for the rest of us. :finga:

My first gig flying a cessna / dock work paid 2k a month after taxes. When it rained / was IFR I didn't go sucking ass, asking what I could do... I went home. I also made sure I took my days off. You gotta have a backbone. If they want someone to do grunt work... then they can hire a full time grunt.

Chesty,

Your provocative and tasteless posts are not even mildly entertaining. I encourage you to take a minute to actually read my posts in this thread and see my perspective. Maybe this isn't clear to you, but I was not making a statement of the industry standard, but making a statement about the range of what one should ask for in my opinion.

I truly do not see the issue with asking for fair wages. There ARE operators that pay fair wages. Granted, there are numerous variable regarding time off, days off, 'benefits', and other tasks at hand that depict a fair wage. Beacon Final sums this up fairly well. However I posed a statement with a particular criteria that I have found to be the general consensus for a typical month.

Sounds like there are some tight wallets in Red Lake.
The terms "backbone" and "not worth sh*t" are being used loosely.
Two things in this world I possess, work ethic and money.
Kid, don't walk around demanding money, and preaching industry standards.
And I'd ignore the part about "going home" when the weather is shit.
Came to this company a GREENHORN and 4 seasons later, I still wield a hammer, a can of W-D, a broom or whatever the hell else needs being done. Regular raises included.
I'm already a commercial pilot (race for hours is over, I've got 50 years of flyin' ahead of me) and it isn't only about what you do in the airplane. Why not enjoy the life experience. This mom n' pop op. has taught me how to shingle a roof, plumb, wire, insulate and tin a house, service heavy machinery, and to enjoy both the view from the dock and the taste of a well made caesar. Among other things.
If you're gonna demand money, you better be willing to earn it, regardless of the flights booked.
Otherwise YOU take what YOU get.

And I know what some people are gonna say "hey I put in my time." Well one summer on the dock is F-ALL. Times are hard and some folks will be looking at more than one. You can quote me.

As for the original post: Wages for 180 pilot (here's a sign fit for the current "hard times")
"GREEN PILOT WILL FLY FOR FOOD"
Write that Down
Cheers

Chesty

First: Boozy has flown an Otter, so he does know what he is talking about and you clearly do not.

Second: I have been in the game long enough to know, and I am sure its longer than you have.

Lastly: Don't you ever make fun of someone for studdering. Noone is perfect...you have displayed that you are far from it. I hope you come up to YRL so we can have a nice mannerly chat sometime. You are just a low life, and give the rest of us a bad name. In fact why don't you PM me, I will give you my cell number and you can call me when you are in town. No kidding. I am not challenging you to a fight, b/c that would be a waste of time as you are a coward and I am above that sort of thing anyway. I just want you to realize what a spinless worm you are, when you fail to call me. Go ahead and make a bunch of put downs etc etc. You are just insecure with who you are. Everyone else in here is just pointing out facts and sharing opinons, you are just being childish and rude...... go ahead prove me right by either typing out more drivel or not replying.

Have a Happy Easter
