Leaving Jazz....
I guess this is a question mostly for guys at WJ who use to be at Jazz.
When you gave your resignation, did they allow you to fly for the
notice period, ie 2 weeks.
Or did they do what many places do now, and basically take your pass
from you on the spot and walk you to the exit door. Paying you out for
the last two weeks.
Just trying to form my exit plan and how I will bid for that month.
Thanks

Re: Leaving Jazz....
I know of a few that left Jazz for elsewhere and as far as I know they gave their notice and continued to fly.
Re: Leaving Jazz....
Obbie, I would plan your exit with respect for your current employer. I know of a guy who gave notice, then booked off for the entire period. It was discovered he was not sick and the new employer was informed of this. New employer took new employee aside, and informed him that he was on notice, that if he didn't perform extremely well during training they won't be keeping him.
If you're planning on bidding a big stretch of days off and making that your notice, I would love to tell you go for it. Because if thats the type of person you want to be, you get what you deserve. However what happens in this case, ie; if you give notice and only work 2 days in that period, you only get paid for the days you worked.
Curious though, how long have you been with Jazz?

I didn't know Jazz had different rules for people who quit for the almighty Westjet versus quitting for anyone else in the aviation industry. Just a guess, but probably anyone that quit Jazz could answer your question.
Despite what you or other people think, the company is a professional one. You will be treated accordingly.
Good Luck
Re: Leaving Jazz....
I wanted to ask the WJ guys because the guys who went to mainline
were handled more like a transfer rather than a termination. Thus the
difference.
Relax boys, I'm not making any judgements here, just asking about
company procedure. It does vary from place to place you know.
And how I leave is my business, thank you.
How long have I been here.......long enough to realize that my career dreams
will never be realized at this airline. I aspire to fly a much larger jet and the
much larger pay stub that comes with it. I look forward to overnights in
major cities around the world, rather than YMM or YXE.
I wish those who choose to stay the best of luck with the new contract.

If your so tough, don't give a shit, and only care about your end, then why ask us?And how I leave is my business, thank you.
Like....yyg, ydf, YMM, yqu, ykf, yxu, yqm, yxs, yqr, ysj, YXE, yqy, yqt, ywg......I look forward to overnights in
major cities around the world, rather than YMM or YXE.
Oh my...the glamour

Re: Leaving Jazz....
TAWS...I see you are probably one of those little infant new hires.
The ones who can go on a 4 day pairing and not need to shave.
I'll throw you a bone little boy to help clue you in.
I never said I was going to WJ.....
And when I said much larger jet......I meant MUCH larger jet.
Now go get yourself a glass of milk......cartoons will be starting soon.

Re: Leaving Jazz....
Not an infant new hire...but have an infant.
Interestingly enough you throw out insults like an infant...
My god that is fucking lame....
In any event...you won't be missed.
Like I said before...
Good Luck

Re: Leaving Jazz....
Obbie,
I have no problem with you wanting to leave for something bigger, if that is what turns your crank, go for it. I do have a problem with you asking how to do it...leave, that is.
Surely anyone with any kind of respect for the company that has helped pave the way to that bigger jet should at least know how to do it.

Re: Leaving Jazz....
I just asked a company policy question......not a how question.
I already know what I am doing. And with the exception of the
first responce, (much thanks prop2jet), got a bunch of attitude.
I can asure you guys that management will be delighted with my
departure. It means they will be able to stop paying me $53 an hour,
so they can find some 1500 hour wonder and pay him $36 an hour instead.
Hell, they will probably give themselves a bonus, saying they talked me into leaving.
Your loyalty to a company that would just as much see us all poor and starving
is both moving and troubling. But it is your choice, and I will leave you with it.
Again, best of luck with the new contract.

Re: Leaving Jazz....
I am not a business major, but isn't that how most companies work? Find someone who can do the same job with cheaper overhang?I can asure you guys that management will be delighted with my
departure. It means they will be able to stop paying me $53 an hour,

This was probably why I had someone in India asking me if Quebec was by Toronto. This occurred when I had a question about my taxes this year using Quicktax, after dialing the 1-800 number.
I hate to tell you but when push comes to shove, there is no company loyalty. Your new company will throw you out as quick as the old one.
On a side note....I don't seeing anyone starving at Jazz. Next to AC we probably have the most out-of-shape pilots in Canada.

Re: Leaving Jazz....
TAWS....I think you are someone who simply loves the sight of his own typing.
Re: Leaving Jazz....
I remember when I quit Jazz they can do something with your roster anyways, no matter your bid. Basically if I remember they just gave me as much flying as possible in the period before I quit. You might as well just give your notice and let the rest fall into place. They were also very helpful, I need to leave one day earlier than I had planned due to moving and they were more than happy to let me. Good luck with your next job.

With all due respect obbie, when you add something like which I've highlighted for you, just what conclusion do you expect one to come to. Good luck with your new job, I hope you were at least above me on the list

Obbie
Get a hold of the person in YVR in charge of pensions (forget her name, it's on the phone list) and get your pension money. It takes a few months, and if you don't go after it, they won't just hand it over. I would also look into booking all your time off for that two weeks.
Good luck with your new job.

Re: Leaving Jazz....
Don't bid reserve for your last month. Crew sched can do some dirty things to you and you have no way to fight back since you are leaving, I know this from experience. Trust me on this one, bid a block and try to get a string of days off.
Good luck with your new job!

Re: Leaving Jazz....
Exit gracefully and make sure to walk out the front door. finish your last two weeks and shake your managers hand. make sure to thank for the valuable experience you have gained. jazz is a great stepping stone to move on to the major carriers like AC or WJ. good luck.
Re: Leaving Jazz....
Good advice Massey1. I left on good terms with Cal and Firoz, both were gentlemen any time I met them during my time there. I'm sure they are unaware of the crap pulled by a small number of crewschedulers.
