Bush pay???

Post by DEL »

Pay for pilots and dock hands in the bush. Keep it simple, no company names but area located in. ie: western Canada, northwestern Ontario, Quebec or east coast. Try to use the format below so it is simple but if I have overlooked something, please add. Lets keep it to the past three years so we can see the increases if there were any. If you moved from one position to another post it in the comment section. Once there has been enough postings, we can put it in the salary section so all know what is going on with bush pay.

Pilots:
aircraft used:

Dockhands:

I need to add something to my last post. I can understand why a low time pilot would take such a job having found it (Being a low timer myself). What truly upsets me is that there is an operator out there willing to offer this. You're not getting milage on top of this I assume?
Just to clear things up for me, and the rest of us, do you only have the 50 hours on floats? Have you been flying wheels for 20 years and just decided on a career change?
Does anyone else find this appalling?

No I don't find it appalling, just plain retarded. Do the math $2000 a month diveded by 30 days=$66.67 a day. If you took a mininum wage job at Mcdonalds and worked an 8 hour shift you would make $76.00 a day. I think pc2 should ask for a raise, or find another job. Maybe Mcdonalds is hiring.

Let me get this straight. The this fellow comes out of a 50hr bush course and lands a job in this ecconomy for $2000 a month and everyone is on his case?

What difference does it make what he's flying? Cub, 185, 206, Beaver? A beaver isn't that much harder to fly. He's being paid a fair wage for a first time job especially with no dock time.

Next year when he has more experience he can ask for a raise. I would be a bit wound up if he said he had 10,000 hrs and took a job for $2000 but that's not the case.

Good on you PC2. Glad to hear the 50 hour bush course paid off.

I wonder if the owner of that airplane has a lower charter rate than his / her competition that reflects the low pilot pay?

Damn straight!

$2000/mo is an insult. No days off is illegal!

It does make a difference what he flies. The Beaver probably brings in more money in a day of flying than he does in an month. The pilot also has increased responsibility by carrying more passengers and cargo. That should mean more pay--no?

It is great that someone can go straight onto flying a great plane right out of school--but at what cost?

I'm not pissed at this guy, I'm mad at the operator for offering such low pay for the equipment operated. My first job was in a 180 with three days off a month out of camp for 3 grand a month.
And cat, you can bet the guy isn't dropping his charter rates because of the high insurance rates he has to make up for having a low time guy fly his machine.
I actually feel sorry that I'm dumping on this guy for getting this job, but it still upsets me.
(Note to self... if I ever take a job where I'm underpaid, bonded, working in terrible conditions, etc... Don't post it on avcanada!)

Employers like this one and those who see nothing wrong with slavery is the reason you poor bastards " MUST " form an association to allow you to get paid a fair wage with safe working conditions.

I still do some part time flying and my minimum daily rate is $500.00 per day even if I only fly one short trip.

Does this particular Beaver job happen to be in Wabowden? If so, I know why the pay sucks, and why a guy with only 50 hours could get the job.

I assume you want to know what airplanes I charge that rare on?

Any light single engine or multi engine airplanes.

If the airplane is in the more complex category my rate goes up considerably.

Attention pilots out there on salary pay.We must remember salary is just a form of payment, Companies by law have to pay overtime, stat holidays and all that good stuff. It just amazes me that these companies get away with this fraudulant act. Sit down and fiqure out the time put in and what your payed, and you will see just how much you are being ripped off.If the boss says he can't afford it .and pulls into the hanger with his 40ft motorhome hes full of @v$%^.

So if you think you are being ripped off what can you do about it?

What does your employers forty foot motor home have to do with your pay?

After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.
