My understanding was that the groundschool was canceled due to more guys returning from leaves of absence than anticipated.

I'm going into the sim tomorrow morning, I'll try and find out some info from the trainer, he may know. However, as others have been saying, it looks as though some pilots that were on leave are coming back early, hence the cancellation.

My understanding is that there is to be no more ground schools. The simple fact is that with some returning to work this summer and the fact that going forward into the fall season there will more than likely be less flying, any hiring will likely be short lived as you can probably expect a reduction in flying come the fall. It is unfortunate but that is pretty much how it is shaping up to be.

14 more newhires started GS this week, and that is the last course planned as of now. That's the only fact floating around out there that I know of. We should (emphasis on SHOULD) have a bid coming out in July, and that will tell of any hiring/layoff plans for the rest of the year.

Well, they can't get the newhires/LOA's back online fast enough IMO. Between Saturday night at 8PM and Sunday morning at 8AM I got 3 calls for WDO's (including one at 05:30
We're already blocked at 82.5 and I think training is out of the blocking window on top of that. No thanks... I'll be keeping ALL of my days off.

My understanding is that training outside the window is at standard rate...not overtime. Still lots of hours, though...

I'd rather spend my days off home especially during summer than at the sim or CRM at regular pay!

Training outside the window is overtime, I have sim next week.

My block is for 84 hours this month with training outside the window. Meaning that I am doing 93 hours this month.

The way I read the contract ANYTHING over 85 hours, and WDO's is overtime. Time and a half.

Or at least it fu$%in better be or I'll just book off next time it happens.

Cheers.

Training outside the window is at straight time. Any block growth over 85 is at time and a half.

Any reason they still have the posting on workopolis if they're not hiring?

I believe the posting is still up in error. I've read that they and WestJet will
be soon using a better system.

For the guys/gals waiting for a GS spot, here's some advice.
Go get another job, or don't make plans to leave the one your at. The last time Jazz (the industry post Sept 11th) was in this situation my ground school was put on hold. Rumors then were a few months, then the next summer, turned out to be 4+ years!
Not knocking Jazz in any way, just bringing to light what may (or may not happen) to those who are in limbo. Don't wait around and pass up other opportunities. Continue on as if you never got the Jazz offer.
