Topper Harley: I could never find time for love. It's too heavy. It's an anchor that drowns a man. Besides, I got the sky, the smell of jet exhaust, my bike.
Pete 'Dead Meat' Thompson: A loner?
Topper Harley: No. I own it.

Ramada Thompson: You were discharged from the service 18 months ago for willful insubordination. You disobeyed a direct order and lost a $13 million fighter in the process.
Topper Harley: Yes, I did. But I'm paying it off at ten bucks a week. And I wouldn't be doing that if I'd gotten that extra collision coverage.

Jim 'Wash Out' Pfaffenbach: Looks like enemy aircraft at 12 o'clock.
Admiral Benson: Really? 12 o'clock? Well, that gives us about...
[checks his watch]
Admiral Benson: 25 minutes. Think I'll step out for a burger.

Lt. Commander Block: American planes will always be superior as long as there are wonderful men like you in the cockpit. And German parts.

Jim 'Wash Out' Pfaffenbach: I just got kicked out of the unit. My flight status has been withdrawn. I'm through, Dead Meat!
Pete 'Dead Meat' Thompson: What happened?
Jim 'Wash Out' Pfaffenbach: It's my eyes. I've got walleye-vision.
Pete 'Dead Meat' Thompson: Isn't there something that can be done?
Jim 'Wash Out' Pfaffenbach: Well, there's a delicate corneal inversion procedure... a multi-opti-pupil-optomy. But, in order to keep from damaging the eye sockets, they've got to go in through the rectum. Ain't no man going to take that route with me!

Jim 'Wash Out' Pfaffenbach: I need clearance to land on runway thirty... thirty... something!
Air Controller: Thirtysomething's been cancelled.

Topper Harley: My father used to say that not playing to win is like sleeping with your sister. Sure she's a great piece of tail, with a blouse full of goodies, but... it's just illegal. Then you get into that whole inbred thing. Kids with no teeth who do nothing but play the banjo... eat apple sauce through a straw... pork farm animals.

Topper Harley: So... I guess you've been with a man before...
Ramada Thompson: I'm a virgin. I'm just not very good at it.

Buzz Harley: Out of the way sky hog.

Harbinger: Thank you, Topper. I can kill again! You've given me a reason to live.

President Thomas 'Tug' Benson: It seems like only yesterday I was strafing so many of your homes. Here I am today, begging you not to make such good cars.

Rufshaad: I can see you're no stranger to pain.
Col. Denton Walters: I've been married.
Rufshaad: Ah.
Col. Denton Walters: *Twice*.
Rufshaad: Oy!

President Thomas 'Tug' Benson: [He is about ready to battle Saddam Hussein] We'll settle this the old navy way; The first guy to die, LOSES!

My favourite pilot character in a movie is The Big Dig McCaffrey (Orlando Jones - Say It Isn't So)!

Dig: "You make a lot of coin flying those gigs nobody else wants. I take sportsmen out to the bush, fly banners over supermarket openings, some crop dustin'. Hell, I'll fly up your ass if the money's right. Hey, that's pretty good. You think I ought to put that on my card?"

Gilly: "Dig, what are you doing up there?"
Dig: "What do you mean, what am I doing up here? You ever try jumping off a roof with no legs? It stings!"

Gilly: "Hey, listen, Dig, you sure you're gonna be able to fly with that thing?"
Dig: "I'm Dig McCaffrey, boy! I can fly a can of Spam like this."
Gilly: "How'd you lose those legs anyway?"
Dig: "Plane crash. Come on, let's light this firecracker."

"Hey, Ridley, ya got any Beeman's?"
"Yeah, I think I got me a stick."
"Loan me some, will ya? I'll pay ya back later."
"Fair enough."

Conversation between . Yeager & Jack Ridley
The Right Stuff, 1983

"I've been in here more than three hours. I'm a hell of a lot cooler than you guys. Why don't you just fix your little problem and light this candle?"

Actual dialogue by Alan Shepard, while on the launch pad of Mercury space program (Freedom 7, 1961), and re-iterated in The Right Stuff (1983)

Hoban 'Wash' Washburn: This landing is gonna get pretty interesting.
Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: Define "interesting".
Hoban 'Wash' Washburn: [deadpan] Oh God, oh God, we're all going to die?

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: [on the ship's intercom] This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then - explode.

Ok, let me see if I've got this straight. In order to be grounded, I've got to be crazy. And I must be crazy to keep flying. But if I ask to be grounded, that means I'm not crazy anymore, and I have to keep flying. -Captain Yossarian, Catch 22
