Slipster wrote:Word has it a DHC6 on floats had a "little mishap" I have on good authority that a MAT DHC 6 dipsy doodled into water ie Crashed ... All on board OK!!!

I have flown for MAT ( by all means a great experience), and have nothing bad to say.

This is the second accident in 2 years which raises the question???

How does A company employ and keep professional float pilots?????

Mat requires 2500 TT ...(fair)

1000 floats (seems reasonable)

1000 on type ( sure)

ATPL (????) I realize this is a Borek requirement and I get the fact that KBA needs this to insure the safety of its international Ops.

But my question is this.

How many pro float drivers have the night time and or are on there way to getting the night time for that requirement??

An ATPL does not a wise float pilot make. One cannot license common sense .

As the details of the second accident aren't with us I digress ... But the one in July 08 seemed to be PDM.

My two cents...

You have the floor

Too bad uncle bob aint still the cp there, then this sort of thing would never happen. :? Sorry, just being facetious. Anyway, float flying is common sense and a bit of smarts to do with reading situations which have a tendency to change and learning through hopefully not too bad of mistakes. Holding an ATPL certainly has nothing to do with those sort of attributes.

Holding an ATPL certainly has nothing to do with the kind of flying in the Maldives if you're only talking about the piece of paper they give you when you pass. However the studying and brushing up of all the stuff that you once knew and the polishing of your flying skills for the test can certainly do no harm.
