Hi Stick,

As it stands today, we will be running 2 courses (October). I suspect more will run early in 2010 however I'm just speculating at this point.

It certainly has been a year with a lot of forks in the road.

Dave.

Hi Dave,

Regarding the two courses you mentioned for October...how many pilots per class? Also, have all the pilots planned for the class gone through the interview process yet?

Thanks!

Class sizes will be 8 and we will be drawing from the hired pool which consists of about 30 pilots.

I'm hoping to begin interviewing again in the fall.

Hope this helps,

Dave.

Hi Dave,

I just have a quick question. Im a little confused as to why there have been company wide offers of LOA's to pilots but yet they might still be having G/S's in the fall. Is this an effort to save money?

Hi MNOP,

The leaves are short term.

The hiring will essentially be for an increase in block hours when the winter sked gets into full swing. The lack or reduction in flying hours this fall presents an opportunity to offer these short term solutions. If and when the economy turns, it should be back to business as usual.

Take care,

Dave.

While people are apt to scream "use the search function!", with caps and angry emoticons, might I respectfully suggest you read this precise thread say, seven posts up from yours?

I hope this helps.

I did, the last thing Dave P said, was that he was hoping to start interviewing this fall, and that was in late July. I was looking for any updates, as I've heard a few things from my friends inside.

I heard there was a recent meeting for hiring. DaveP can clarify.

Today I see this;

Nov - 4 newhires
Dec - 8 "
Jan - 8 "
Feb - 16 "

A few upgrades in there too. Good to see the machine starting to move again!! Oh, and I'm sure these numbers will shift a little thru the next quarter.

No wonder it's such a messed up industry. People cursing on an internet forum is just the top of the icing. :smt040 The funny thing is that you guys may be flying as crew one day down the road. Show some respect you guys. WJA or ACA. You guys are both at the flight levels, doing the same job. Relax and enjoy it !

Now continue, I'm quite enjoying the argument between the guys I trust when I sit as a passenger on a 737  Hopefully you boys erase the CVR after each flight?

was by the office yesterday... 2 upgrades this month, NOV and I think I know the guy who's next after that.

Third quarter numbers were good. Quite a bit of flying in the next few months coming our way...hopefully Canadians want to fly somewhere warm this winter. Run from the flu, go SOUTH!!

Hey loopa,

Nice quote taken out of context for the sake of stirring the pot.

Cursing on the internet? How dare I tarnish the sanctity of the internet.

BTW - I do relax at my job and I don't talk about this garbage at work.

Where do you think this flu started? Yup, down south. Nothing like getting the Creeping Crud while on vacation.

So we heard today that because of the vast number of "higher time pilots" on the market and out of work at the moment, Westjet has completely dumped their pool in "pilots waiting" in favour of the higher time guys. This would mean that someone who was waiting for their phone call, would have to reapply and go though the process again.

Please tell me there is no truth to this rumour as I have some friends who are waiting for spots.

Cheers

Can't see that being true. With over a thousand qualified applicants on file, many having internal recommends and being higher time, why start over? The only thing that's changed recently is that we no longer use workopolis so, if you haven't reapplied since the change over, you'll need to reapply...I think...

Sort of half true. The guys in the pool will re-apply, but absolutly nothing to do with high time out of work pilots. Can't go into details but that is NOT the reason. Wish I could give you more

They can stay out of work or bite the bullet for two years until they start pulling in a 100k a year.

First year wages have gone up.

After 8 years of torture in the right seat they will enjoy the raise after the upgrade because that last year at 150k will be almost unbearable.
