So, anyone here know this guy?
So I guess he's a 'person of interest' in the murder of his wife in the States. Prior to that he was on the reality show (airing now) Megan Wants a Millionaire.

They found him dead in a motel room in Hope, BC this afternoon. Apparent suicide.

Good. It will save us taxpayers from paying for his trial and incarceration...

Re: So, anyone here know this guy?
Actually, wouldn't he be tried in the US? They have the death penalty down in California too, and if not, he would have at least got more than our puny murder sentances.

I don't think they would extradite a case involving the death penalty due to all the bleeding hearts here in Canada, but who knows...

Re: So, anyone here know this guy?
Hey and Inverted, you are correct - Canada won't extradite a person to a jurisdiction where they face the death penalty.
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Re: So, anyone here know this guy?
He could have been extradited regardless of death penalty issues. However, the government is required to first review the case and evidence, and attempt to secure a committment from the other jurisdiction to not seek/impose a death sentence. It leads to a lengthy extradiction process involving about 5 years worth of court proceedings and appeals. Once in California, it would be another year or two before going to trial, followed by a multitude of appeals over the course of another decade. Any execution he might have faced would have been 15-20 years away.

What are they going to charge her with - saving the

First Colin Thatcher

Colin Thatcher: freed and still defiant over conviction for murdering wife
OJ,

If I Did It is a book by O. J. Simpson
maybe someday they will all join up with OJ in his search for the real killer.....

I don't think Thatchers book will get 65 grand on ebay , though....

and now this Ryan whoever, that left a mess for the poor housekeeping staff at that motel......One copy did show up on eBay on January 15, 2007, with a starting bid of $1500, and sold for over $65,000 fueling speculation about whether News Corp. was able to destroy all printed copies....

You're right, most innocent err, not guilty people run 1500 miles to a foreign country (or home country in this case) and hang themselves within days.
Sure a court of law never convicted him, however the court of common sense has ruled he is a douche bag.

Re: So, anyone here know this guy?
The police know who dropped him at the motel. They are not releasing her name because they are not charging her and she does not present a risk to anyone in the community.
The tin foil hat crowd, lead on the the likes of Nancy Grace, will continue speculating that it was an elaborate scheme by some jealous former boyfriend, casino mafia wise guys collecting on gambling debts, aliens from space, etc. All plausible except for the complete lack of any evidence. In the end, it will be nothing more than a guy with a history of spousal abuse loosing his temper again, going too far and killing the woman, and then attempting a lame identify cover-up and get away.

Re: So, anyone here know this guy?
He looped his belt around his neck, stood their and tied the other end to the hanger bar, and then made the choice to support his weight with his neck rather than standing on his feet. It doesn't take long to slip into unconciousness, afterwhich you no longer have the option of choosing to stand back up. Takes probably 10 to 15 minutes for the heart to stop beating.
It may seem unthinkably impossible to do, and probably is for a lucid person who wants to stay alive. But for someone like him who was probably in a state of psychosis from stress and wanting to die, it's not that hard a thing to do. This type of suicide is much more common that people realize - that is a suicide carried out in a way that could have been discontinued at any point prior to unconciousness.

Re: So, anyone here know this guy?
Your survival instinct only kicks in when you want to survive. As a result of my job, I have been involved in several cases of suicide by hanging where the person's feet were on the floor and they could have stood up. In one case, I found them and cut them down before they expired or suffered brain damage. I also have seen someone who committed suicide by looping a wire garrote around their own neck, putting a toothbrush through the loop, and then turning the toothbrush to tighten the loop so that it crushed their own wind pipe.
The clothes rack shown on the news would easily support 200lbs+. It was made of 3/4 or 1" steel tubing bolted or screwed to a couple wall studs.
I agree that the publicized evidence proving Jenkins killed the girl is still far from conclusive. In a legal sense, there is enough to warrant his arrest, but not close to enough to earn a conviction in a criminal trial. The investigation is still ongoing and the cops will continue until they are satisfied they have all available evidence. Unless something unforseen emerges, they will close the case when they have enough evidence to support charging him if he were alive.
As for evidence against him - he has a history of spousal violence, he was he last person seen with her, he didn't report her missing, he fled from the jurisdiction, he ran from the US Coast Guard, he crossed the border into Canada illegally, he hid out in a small town motel, and he committed suicide.
