Activists complain about late landings at island airport

Post by matrix »

"We've also just recently learned that after 11 p.m. there's nobody in the [air traffic control] tower ... presumably these pilots are landing blind," he told the meeting.

Hold on... are we letting visually impaired people fly now too? Egads, I can understand why those poor island people are worried....

Man that made my day.... I did some internet snooping, found their website, check out these "songs" they had written to support their cause.

SHUT THAT AIRPORT DOWN
(tune: John Fogerty / lyrics: Kathleen McDonnell)

I see an airport by the water
I small toxins in the air
I hear the roaring of propellers
Noise, pollution everywhere

CHORUS:
Don’t get on that plane
Better take the train
That’s the way to get around
We know what to do
To cut our CO2
Shut that island airport down

People come down to the water
(to) Enjoy the flowers, birds and trees
People should not be subjected
(to) Airplanes poisoning the breeze

CHORUS

We want air that fit for breathing
We want a lake that blue and clean
We want a park that’s fit for strolling
We want a waterfront that’s green

CHORUS

THE ISLAND
(words & music Mike Ford SOCAN 2007)

The wind that turns the windmill blades
To light the water’s edge soirees
The panels catch the solar rays, the island

The marsh beside the new lagoon
Where we can lose an afternoon
Behind the stretch of sand and dune, the island

A harbour jewel for us to share
Feel the breeze and breathe the air
Imagination soaring where
There used to be an Airport

The haze that hung is there no more
And gone the turbo engine roar
They found another reason for the island

A speedy flight’s an easy sell
But is that really living well
Soaring through the air propelled
By what we strip the planet bare for

The age of rail came back again
Round about Two-Thousand-Ten
It helped the city to befriend the island

We watch the sails against the blue
And take it down a notch or two
Then bid the setting sun adieu, the island

Not to worry, the Seeing Eye Dog can bark minimums, runway in sight, etc.

Dead paw, dead engine!

I guess they see no problem if I park on the Gardiner Expressway every day in rush hour, with my gas guzzling V8 4.6L car idling endlessly.

But they seem to think the dastardly airport is the real "trojan horse" in the downtown core. Uhh, reality check anyone

Also, given the notorious left-wing comments and audience of the CBC, I'm shocked at how popular some of the comments are. When you're so far left-wing, even the left-wingers won't prop your stupidity up.... you have a major problem

There activists, complain is all they do, dont worry give it a month and they will get bored and move on to the poor whales or affirmative action or some other BS.

The nice thing about activists is they are pussies, they b@tch up a storm but do nothing.

I don't see why this is a left-wing problem... I've voted NDP when the candidate suits me, however I fully understand the benefits of a vibrant airport in the downtown core.

This isn't left or right wing, it's an idiotic cause to be fighting against the existence of YTZ - these people are greedy SOBs who are only worried about their property values and those of the condominiums they're financing on the mainland.

If only that were the case, but as far as CommunityAir is concerned getting rid of the airport is their sole reason for existence. It is the reason these people get up in the morning and continue to draw breath. If the airport actually does get closed down for any reason these people will have nothing left to live for and will die a quick and lonely death.

The schlock they bring up in this press release isn't anywhere near as absurd as the garbage they made up during Miller's first election when Deluce was on the cusp of starting Porter.

How do these people feel they have the right to protest the airport when it was there long before their stupid condos?

I love tower there calling my base right over the noise restricted area on the island. MUhahaha, take that island hippies. Aren't these the same environmentally aware individuals that opted for a 400' ferry crossing (that runs some 18 hours a day) over a bridge? Something about their property value or taxes.

You know, it would make it much safer if we just started a petition to remove all residential housing from the island.... for their safety of course.
