I was in kingston a couple years back, walking to the bar I saw this beautiful japanese girl with long flowing hair, painted purple getting a buzz cut.

I'll never really understand the urge to get shitfaced and make a fool of yourself only to have a massive hangover the next day. I see the students around here doing this every weekend and I can't help but shake my head. I wish I had the ability to balance my life so that I could be hammered all weekend and still get my assignments done for Monday. I guess it comes with not having two part-time jobs and a wife?
Bah.

Somehow, Guido, I get the feeling I have better
memories of my undergraduate years than you
do.
For the parts you remember anyway.
My condolences on how your life is going so far.
For your sake, I hope it improves.
Believe me, Hedley, I couldn't be happier with my life. I have a beautiful wife, very little debt, and a bright future ahead of me.
The thing to remember is that Queen's engineers
like me that liked to get purple and drunk never
end up amounting to very much:
Becoming an self-inflated, egotistical wiener with some shiny toys is not something that I can say that I aspire to. You might have some great insight into flight and whatever it was you claim to have made your fortune in... but that's generally all I read your posts for - no offense. I only clicked on this one because I've been considering doing post-grad studies at Queen's... the lifestyle in the student ghetto really turns me off, though. I had a girlfriend who did her undergrad at Queen's and while Kingston is a beautiful city, the area around the university is an eyesore to say the least.

I'm a 200 hour wonder, Hedley. I would never claim to be as good a pilot as you are. I'm not sure where you got the idea that I was saying otherwise.
In the meantime, do keep in mind that every time
anyone uses the internet, their packets flow through
the core routers, where my software is running
Though I hate to contribute to your ego, that's pretty cool - I just landed a part-time job at a small ISP, so I do understand the importance (however I'm also aware that if you hadn't written the code, the next guy over would have).
Yes, we Queen's Engineers never amount to much, do we?
Engineers in general seem to do quite well in the world (financially at least)- I'm at UW, believe me I see a lot of future engineers every day.
My point was that the desire to get hammered and make fools of yourselves seems to me to be a strange way to get through school. I know how much effort I have to put into my schooling as a lowly arts student, so it makes me wonder if engineering programs are exceedingly easy, or if the students are exceedingly bright... though, I have yet to meet an engineering student who held a job while in school... perhaps that's the key.
I guess this is the problem with being an idealist - I'm going to school for a higher reason than money (I bet you think that's ridiculous and/or impossible). Maybe I'm a little bitter that I have to finance my education by myself rather than ride on mommy and daddy's pockets, or having an assurance of a high-paying job after school. But them's the breaks!

Hedley, you're clearly an intelligent, articulate, well-rounded individual. You're clearly an above average pilot, too.

Is it possible for you to share your thoughts and opinions without the arrogance? Too often I see exchanges where you belittle someone as if they are subordinate to you.

It's hard for me to read your posts, I can't see past the ego.

Guido,

Your remarks surely show you as an ARTS student and you are struggling at that one. From your remarks it's obvious to me that you would not have the ability to make it as an engineer. I never saw an arts student for much else except get a very good high score for creative basket weaving.

Well, when you consider that the average Science/Math/Engineer student has about 40hrs of class a week plus another ~40hrs of lab write ups (like an essay, except that there is a right answer), you can see where there isn't a lot of time for other stuff. If memory serves most of my arts room-mates over the years only had about 15-20hrs of class week. BTW, I too had between 2 and 3 part time jobs during my undergrad at Waterloo. Either way, just ignore Hedley. Some people think he's a jackass, others think he's cool. You're unlikely to change either group's mind.

Harvards it is, I think my posting had more to do with a dearth of instructors and full multi OTUs than anything else.

Of course not you're a pilot. Your own ego is blocking your vision :)
I don't do "thrill rides" on any of our aircraft.
Well if if you're driving I figure I'd be terrified.
So do you do "terrified rides"? :D

The only thing that annoys me about Hedley is that 3-engine monster-boat that he terrorizes the locals with. Make all the airplane noise you want but drug-boat-drivers should be shot and p*ssed on. (I know, that's not logical at all, but when I go boating the peace and quiet is the main draw).

Airplanes? Zoom the place as much as you want, I'll be watching and appreciating. From my boat, too.
