Capitalism: A Love Story

Post by . ._ »

Just saw Michael Moore's new flick.

Here's a trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhydyxRjujU

Typical Mike Moore, AND he mentions pilot salaries quite a bit. COOL!

He interviews some regional pilots in the States that make their respectable $17,000 a year. Less than a manager at Taco Bell.

Take it for what it's worth, and the trailer is probably the worst parts of the film, IMHO. But you gotta shock to get them in the seats, eh?

I recommend it for everyone... except for Hedley. :P

The guy is a fat annoying ass, but he really does make you think.

Along the same lines, I saw another movie "the smartest guys in the room", about the greed and hubris that destroyed Enron. Great movie if you want to get angry.

^ Well, I guess the politicians have the difficult job of redistributing the spoils of capitalism away from the already wealthy...

While capitalism has it's faults it has continually proven to be the system that works. The number of failed communist nations is proof of that. I think both the U.S and Canada have a pretty reasonable balance between capitalism and socialism. Both countries are tweaked over time right and left and I think it's made for a couple of great places to live.

I don't mean to pick on you...but I was waiting for THIS particular argument to be made.

Let me counter you comment with mine: :)

Communism fails when mans greed is introduced.
Capitalism fails when mans greed becomes greater than the system can turn.

Greed is the monkey wrench in ALL mechanisms of a social machine.

And yet greed is here to stay. I wonder what percentage of the worldwide population would be considered 'greedy'? Only 95%? ;)

Perhaps there is "greed" and there is "healthy greed".

I can look to "do well" for myself, or I can look to do "reasonably" well for myself, my workers, my clients/customers, and even maybe my country, too.

Which type of capitalism do we have?

Rats. Why the hell did I watch that trailer. Nice special effects. Now I probably will go see it. Warning spoiler ahead:

It appears to be comets. Or the ocean turning into tidal waves and smashing everything . for some reason.

It looks like John Cusack escapes in that twin engine. So buy a twin engine ( I have to watch the trailer again to see what kind ) to escape the 2012 apocalypse.

Everything in that trailer is a thinly disguised rip-off of the book Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle.

Thanks-I'll look into whether the book is worth reading. I'm kind of numbed ( who isn't, I guess ) to Hollywood screwing up good books. ( Rambo was actually a pretty good book , I thought way back *cliche movie totally screwed it up cliche* ) .

There's probably only one movie a year worth paying for . Even though they make -what-about three a week now? (:

=============

It seems this is the kind of twin you need to buy before 2012 to escape the apocalypse:

Image

I don't know much about twin engine airplanes-I wonder if that's just a Hollywood computer generated image plane.....

And before you go watch that movie you should pick up the book by Richard Dawkins -- The God Delusion.

It will change your perception...because everything you know about life, is wrong.
Everything you do in life, is wrong.

I invite you to travel with me to a few places where capitalism has failed miserably, some are closer than you think, and others are too far for enough of us to really care.

Fail it has, on a number of levels, and for most of the people on Earth.

Question is, what next?

Capitalism has yet to fail.
Wow, you witness the fall of capitalism almost every time there is a civil revolution.

with boundless capitalism, you end up with monarchies/dictators which end up with revolution, time and time again. We are witnessing the cycle yet again. The unbalance is finally coming into the light and people are slowly getting sick of it. Capitalism will fail again and heads will once again roll.
Question is, what next?
What is next is what has always come next though this time there is an interesting dilemma. Left unchecked and un-controlled we are undoubtedly on the path to civil revolution.

For the first time in history however those who have the most to lose in a revolution also control the weapons (and I hate this term) of mass destruction. No longer will our numbers simply suffice as they can kill as many of us who amass against them as they wish. This time, the control harbored by the collective masses has been usurped by those with the power, who have evidently finally came up with the perfect formula of subservience, prejudiced, and militaristic control. They have finally learned how to twist our own morals and beliefs against us, and used those same morals and beliefs to twist us against each other. Our own belief in the system created a window of complacency that those who were in the position could finally exploit to make sure their plan will go off without a hitch, and without a hiccup.

We are collectively too stupid to be human.

If capitalism hasn't failed why are there so many corporations being bailed out these days?
