WestJet names Gregg Saretsky as Executive Vice-President, OperationsOctober 7, 2009 8:30 AM ET advertisement

Seasoned airline executive brings 23 years of experience to role

CALGARY, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - WestJet Airlines today announced the appointment of Gregg Saretsky to the position of Executive Vice-President, Operations, effective immediately.

"Gregg has been a terrific addition to our team since joining in June 2009 as the Vice-President of WestJet Vacations," said WestJet President and CEO Sean Durfy. "His vast experience in Canada and in the United States provides WestJet with the necessary expertise to deliver on our vision of becoming one of the five most successful international airlines by 2016. Specifically, Gregg's previous operational roles at other major airlines in North America will serve us well. It is my privilege to welcome such an experienced veteran to our ranks."

Gregg began his airline career with Canadian Airlines in 1986, where he spent 12 years in a variety of operational and marketing roles. Prior to WestJet, Gregg was with Alaska Airlines for nine years, most recently as Executive Vice-President, Flight and Marketing.

"I am looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and working with the Operations team," commented Gregg Saretsky. "WestJet runs a world-class organization, and I am proud to have the opportunity to lead such a dynamic and enterprising group. The men and women of the Operations team truly demonstrate the caring and can-do attitude of WestJet."

Hmmmm...... a lot of these high end(and high maintenance) suits appear to move around quite a bit , it seems. Probably has something to do with"shelf life" or a "best before " date!!!

"This" guy, as I understand it, is Canadian, and was working at Alaska. Apparently as #2 he was still a long shot to take over at CEO, so, when it became obvious it wouldn't happen, he moved on. Seems reasonable to me. Sounds like we picked up a great guy, and I hope he's as great a fit as he sounds.

He's certainly well qualified. I do think it's a little early to speculate on how he'll do. The place is littered with the remnants of people that have come and gone for various reasons over the life of the company. Here's hoping

Just to clarify, since moving in to the new campus at YYC, all remaining 'remnants' were gathered up and auctioned off at the beginning of this past summer. The proceeds went in support of various Calgary based charitible foundations. From reports I heard, there was a lot of interest in Steve Smith's annotated version of "How to Win Friends and Influence People", as well as a bathroom stall marked up with various musings by Tim Morgan. (The funniest being a poem he wrote on his last day at WJ).

A complete list of the other remnants is available for purchase at the WJ store in the new campus.

It's never too early to speculate on how someone will do, but sometimes it is too early to see how someone is doing. :smt040

Johnny Dangerous

If that was a shot at Tim Morgan you're as stupid as I know you are. Who do you think started this place so you could have a job you moron? He worked his tail off and just because he and CB didn't continue their dance, it in no way reflects on his contribution to the success of this company. It was a very bad day for me and a lot of other people here when he left.

If it wasn't a shot, ignore my post...I'm a little touchy on that subject as you might have guessed by now

No HW it wasn't a shot. I hardly knew the guy, having maybe shared a few passing hellos. And a day of GS after he left.

I know I might write something in one of the stalls on my last day...
