I'm told that Victoria Flying Club has a tailwheel that they train on.

You can get a signoff in your logbook from an instructor (or commercial
pilot) that you are considered competent in three point and wheel landings
in a particular type with X knots of crosswind, but really, that's about it.
If it is with a commercial pilot, does the commercial pilot log PIC and the trainee log dual?

Cheers

Canadian Flight Centre does both tail wheel and aerobatic on brand new Citabria/ Decathlon.
Dual is 168.00 for Citabria.

Hedley,

Why would you put yourself into a position of liability by signing someones book, that is not to any "standard",, well other than your own?

A little over the top there.

I don't think so.

I remember when Central Airways got their first nose wheel airplane a Piper Tri Pacer, we all walked around it trying to figure out WTF it was.

Then it really started to come apart when they brought in the Cessna 172 to replace the Cessna 170...

......and it has been down hill ever since as the tricycles replaced the bikes so to speak.

Yeh looking back that was the thin edge of the wedge in the dumming down of flight training. :drinkers:

The insurance companies more or less set the tail dragger/float/ski requirements.
I think my insurance company wanted 60hrs tail dragger.

Heck, Strega, anytime any instructor or AME signs
anyone's book, we're in a position of liability.

Someone crashes years down the road, their widow
could sue their instructor, claiming that the dead
pilot wasn't instructed very well, years ago.

Or an AME could be sued if an airplane he signed
off ten years ago crashes - the widow claims his
maintenance was sub-standard

Hed,

I understand what you are saying, but maint, or other things ie multi and night rating, are signed off to a particular CAR standard that TCCA sets out.. How do you do this with conventional gear training?

I really dont care what you do, I just dont want you to get screwed by helping someone out.....

I'm sure that the pilots thought this way too when the first Me-262 showed up on the field.
