Medical cost

Post by ministock47 »

I'm looking for a class 3 medical in Calgary and have just been told they want $250 for it. This sounds a pretty expensive, is it about the right price?

I don't know many of the YYC examiners, however, there is a woman in the Shell facilities who is a great deal more reasonable, and Dr Brendan Adams at Springbank who does nothing but aviation medicals. He was 90 dollars the last time I saw him a couple of years ago.

Doc Adams is an expert in the field of aviation medicine. he consults with airlines and unions.

www.aviationdoc.com

From his webiste:

Q. How much does it cost?
Aviation medicals are not covered by Alberta Health Care. Our fee is the same for Private as well as Commercial - $90.00, payable by cheque, VISA, Mastercard or Interac. ECGs are completed in-house, or computer interpreted, and cost $25.00. Audiograms are available and cost $25.00.

“Computer interpreted ECGs can be done at our office.”

I paid $100 for my Class 3 about a year ago.
I don't remember the doc's name but it was in the Medical clinic on 16th Ave NW (Trans-Canada) just down the hill (west) from Foothills as you enter Montgomery.

$250 is a blatant gouge!

Women and planes have alot in common
Both are expensive, loud, and noisy.
However, when handled properly both respond well and provide great pleasure

Yeah...that seems WAY high to me. I'm in YEG but I paid $100 cash for mine. Of course, I also ended up having to drop another $80 for an eye exam, $40 for a visual field exam and $350 for new lenses for my glasses...lol

$120 for my CAT 1 in Victoria, $20 for the ECG; roughly near that price for most doctors here it seems.

Not like $150 makes a big difference come tax time, but are our medicals considered a medical expense in regards to tax deductions?

I would think that would only be the case if you're going for a Cat 1 for the CPL...not so much for the Cat 3 PPL medical.
