Spoilers? (Ventral Fins)

On the Q400, I've heard those fins on the back called Ditching Damns. I think they are on there for some certification reasons, say if it was to land on the water. They help keep the plane floating. I'm not 100% on that but, hopefuly this will spark up someone else's facts and not just speculation like mine.

Nope, nothing to do with ditching, not even on the Q, although maybe Porter should look into that, operating off the island and all.

Just the same aerodynamic reasons stated above

The Lear 45 does have spoilers, actually spoilerons to be specific. They can be operated together as spoilers with the lever, or asymetrically with the yoke to supplement the airlerons for roll control (potentiometer on the left yoke sending signals to hydraulic control). Also, in event of a jam in the aileron system, the left yoke can be disconnected from the right side so that roll control can be achieved by the spoilerons alone.

Not that anyone probably cares, but you put a picture of the airplane I currently fly so I figured what the hell!

Just to make it clear for the OP, though, these spoilerons are on the wing, not a device near the tail empennage.
