YVR-YYJ freight operators?

Post by bcflyer »

In the past there used to be an Islander that ran back and forth to the island all night hauling freight (newspapers etc I think). That operator is no longer around so I was wondering who does it now.

Morningstar has two Caravans running for FedEx, and Flightcraft does it in a 727 for Purolator before heading elsewhere, but they only do it once a day; over in the morning, back in the evening.

The info on sunwest is innacurate, the metro goes to the okanagan, the caravan goes to yyj and ycd. On the rare occasion the van breaks, another machine from yyc may come west to cover.

Rowdy,
There are 3 Sunwest aircraft based in YVR.

The Metro 23 goes to Kelowna/Kamloops, the Caravan goes to YCD and the Metro II goes to YYJ.

IIRC Orca still does the run. The economy has beat the Mop and Pail up pretty good so it goes by ferry most of the time.

You are correct though. A few years back the company that shall not be named ran papers all night long, especially in the winter when the late sailing of the ferry is cancelled. These days the amount going by air is a pittance by comparison...

Thanks guys. I occasionally get into YVR too late to catch the last sked to YYJ and was hoping I could find someone with a spare seat for a tired pilot trying to get home...

Well maybe a bit. It's just taking seniority based sabbaticals!
