Best way to become float plane/bush pilot???
Hi, I am 24 year old canadian have always loved flying. I'm training towards my JAA PPL, hopefully i'll complete it in January in the Caribbean.
I want to get into float/bush flying as that looks like the most exciting challenging. Money has always been an issue ...however I managed to secure a job as skipper on a superyacht and am now socking it away to complete my dreams!!!
The way the economy is looking I don't think it would be a good time to quite and start looking for the first job.
My question was if I was to complete a 50 hr float rating in February. Probably not fly much at all till 2010 winter and then 2011 summer finish my CPL and start job hunting. WOULD MY 50HR course be regarded as old and not up to date???
My guess is that the employer would prefer to see a recent 50Hr bush course?

Why not do your CPL on floats? You'll have a lot more than 50hrs on floats and you'll save some money.

Great saving idea! Is it your plane? I'll sign up ,send me a pic, can t wait to save all that cash doing a CPL on floats! Sounds so economical!
Re: Best way to become float plane/bush pilot???
Can anyone tell me if there is anyone running float courses in January/Febuary in Canada? Or is it too cold to land on water/ice? Probably not much fun ! But i see that Ocean air works all year round training...?
Anyone done float training in those months before?

Ok, I'll bite....
Try the West Coast for float flying in Jan/Feb - the wx is still poor, but we're not frozen over..lots of places out here that can train you then. Search around for names..

Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

We teach year round -- the weather can be surprisingly useful in January / February too!
