Wind - Yay!
Its about time! Can you actually believe that the pundits are saying that Wind will offer cell service for about 30% cheaper than the "Big Three?" I can hardly wait. I will dump Telus in an instant.
I've just had to buy a new phone as the old one cratered and what a song and dance. Spent 2 weeks fussing and arguing with Telus and finally after hours and hours on the phone they said OK to my requests. Then I got my bill today and they have ignored everything I've been saying!
At least Wind (well, their parent company anyway) bought a lovely Canadian-made Bombardier jet, which is more than I can say for Telus with its cheesy American Cessna. "buy Canadian, keep cell phone service Canadian" bleat bleat.
Kiss my posterior, Telus!

"What's it doing now?"
"Fly low and slow and throttle back in the turns."

Re: Wind - Yay!
I read that they won't be offering bundled packages like the rest of North America; unlimited voice & text, etc. They say they're going to structure it differently.
Still, if it's as good as it sounds, I'm in
Interesting to note, every paper in the country carried the story of Industry Canada overturning the CRTC's ownership decision...except CBC. Why is that?

I found myself wonder what newspaper the CBC publishes and where I can purchase it?

About bloody time. The Big 3 are nothing more than Big Douches. Price is too high for this crap and now these Douches are citing foreign ownership concerns? You had your chances but like typical Douches in quasi-monopoly (forgot the actual term with a few company instead of 1 company) situation, you ran the country like a kingdom. Now if CRTC would do something about the cable bill and selection. I had enough of this bull crap where they say you get 100+ channels but oh wait 1/2 of them are just time shifted stuff for the other 1/2. If Wind turn out to be a good service and on GSM network, time to ditch Fido. Why can't we just buy a phone and go to any network we want? This lock in stuff is crap.

I thought this was the thread about the 605kt low level jet.
I don't have a cell phone, I don't care.

Re: Wind - Yay!
Wind Mobile has the AWS spectrum. I have no idea if that is compatible with GSM or CDMA. I'm not even going to try and pretend I know what I'm talking about.
From Wind Mobile's FAQ's
From Wind Mobile's FAQ's
the spectrum that was auctioned (“AWS”) is at a different frequency from most of the phones currently in the market, including the iPhone. It will take a while before the iPhone works on the AWS frequency (Apple needs to decide to do it). Unless anyone knows Steve and can have him call me.
Same answer for people’s currently unlocked phones. While there are some AWS frequency handsets out there (T-Mobile’s US 3G phones are AWS for example) and handset manufacturers are adding that frequency to their chipsets and handsets, it’s unlikely any currently “unlocked” phones will work on AWS at launch.

It's going to be GSM. Make sure you do your research before you climb on board. Their network will likely be pretty limited for a while and even once they get going I would be surprised to see coverage outside of major Canadian cities. They plan to roam on the Rogers network but it'll cost you 25c a minute, and, for all you data folks, it'll only be on the Edge (2G) network.
For myself, I do to much traveling and rely on my cell too much to be on any network other then Bell or Telus. All I can do is hope new competition lowers prices.Chat: $15 per month

I think I spoke too soon. Have their analysts done their research? Seriously? Partner with Blockbuster?! Hey let's start a new business by partnering with a failing company! May as well set up booth at Tim Horton...better foot traffic.
