YVR B767 Simulator Training
Early this year I did a PPC ride with some outfit based in YVR. The purpose was to endorse my Canadian ATPL with the 767 which was on my NZ ATPL. I received my new license late this past spring with the 767 endorsement. But I never checked the IR validation at the time.
Now I need to use a license with the 767 and want to use the Canadian but I just realised the IR lapsed May 2008. Is it not commonplace to revalidate an IR when one does a PPC check in Canada? If I can contact this outfit maybe they can do something. But who are they?
Here's my next problem. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the individual who did my sim check or the company he worked for. The one I paid for the simulator and instructor time. We used the AC sim in YVR.
If anyone can help with this I would really appreciate it. The name of a company who does 767 ratings and arranges rides such as the one they did for me in the 767 sim.
I'm sure you're wondering where the punch line is for this joke but the sad truth is that its true. If you want to PM me or post any info here that would be great. If you run into me somewhere in SE Asia I can promise you I will buy the beer.
Thanks in advance

Sounds like a mistake.
How did you find this outfit in the first place, and why can't you find them again to fix it?

Yes you can do a PPC and not have the IFR renewed depending how much longer is left on the IFR. They won't beable to do anything about it now. You will have to go and do an IFR ride on something to get the IFR back.

OK thanks for the info guys. I now recall the name, ActiveAerospace. Too bad to hear I'll need to fly to Canada to do an IR though. I sure wish they had validated my IR at the same time. I imagine the requirements are similar if not the same for both PPC and IR.
Thanks again for the help.
Have a nice Xmas

I just came back from renewing my ppc in the Sim and i never got my instrument rating renewed. quite common for those of us who do a sim ride every six months. it will get renewed closer to the ir expiry date.

As far as I know it's just a matter of the Inspector Xing off a box.
The only time I might see an advantage to not doing it, would be on a single engine machine if you had a multi IR.

Contact the company and check airman. Common when companies fail to have the box ticked aftewrwaards as all 705 rides are done to an IR renewal standard. Best $30 you'll ever spend.
You can interpret that however you would like.

Re: YVR B767 Simulator Training
when the check pilot administering the PPC checks the candidates' documents before the ride, they look at the IR expiry date. If the PPC's are done every six months for that carrier, then the IR would only be renewed if it were to expire in the following six months, before the subsequent PPC.
As some companies pay the costs of the renewal to TC, it saves them money to do it this way.
During my six years of tortur-I mean, administering check rides- I would, upon request, renew the IR of a pilot who was within six months of retirement, regardless of the expiry date, to give him as much time as possible before the next expiry. Helped during post-retirement search for employment.
Figured we all owed him at least that much...
