Eliminate the 'one-post wonders'

Post by Airtids »

How about a general forum for folks that are at least rank 1. I think it would be an easy way to eliminate a lot of the crap, and bashing, without getting labelled as anti-freedom of speech.

It's a good idea but it might expose the people that have just discovered AvCanada to a lower level of conversation. Once they had posted enough BS they could then come and share the BS, that they had been indoctrinated with in this forum. Plus they could always just post blank messages to get up to rank one. I think ignoring slanderous and BS postings will do just fine for now.

again, another reason why this forum would turn into a 20 member "I've got more posts than you" session and eliminate diversity and the voices of new-comers into our industry. When you registered, were you automatically assigned your current rank? I'm not picking a fight here but you're pretty much labelling all newbie's or casual posters as worthless and waste of the forum's time. Don't get me wrong, i've seen some pretty worthless posts around here but have yet to find evidence that they're related to low ranks. And the bashing you refer to comes from higher ranked members around here. How else do you think their numbers got so high. It's easier to bash than to provide a thorough useful post.

Exactly, doesn't filter or screen in anyway.

It's not that those with higher rankings wouldn't/couldn't continue to 'contribute' to the rest of the site and let the newbies see what the potential is, and how to properly conduct yourself. It just seems to me that threads deteriorate more rapidly when a topic that has the potential for emotional reaction is broached, and unknown folks who normally wouldn't 'contribute' hit the submit button when they're already fired up because the anonymity factor has given them some courage.

A familiar username would be likely to reduce the temptation to talk out your ass for fear you expose a contradiction. God knows the sharks that patrol these waters would be all over ya! It would also make it easier for the rest of us to just skip right over the postings of the troublemakers (whomever we see in that role) if we're already familiar with their personality.

Can the level of conversation that goes on in some of these posts get any lower? The folks who are going to stick it out here now, would stick it out regardless. The mere 'Train-wreck' entertainment value of this site ensures that. You don't want to look, but you can't help it.

Maybe rank three or higher.
