I was reading this as I struggle to deal with jetlag, quite interesting.

Out of curiosity, why is the frost-looking texture on this wing not hazardous? We had it for about 6 hours and landed safely.
Cheers !

Re: Icing
The thing with frost on wings in flight....the friction of the air moving over the wing should melt it off. Small little patches of frost on a wing won't bring the a/c down. That being said I'm not saying you should take off with frost on your wings...I'm pro clean wing concept.

Of course it can't be "FROST" ... it just looks like it. When I took this pic the temp stated on the airshow was -66C ...frost-looking texture
I just found it to be quite interesting, what ever it is that is on the wings.
Re: Icing
Once your speed gets up over 300kts you typically will start sublimating frost and ice off the wing. At higher flight levels I've heard ice can sublimate at a rate of 1mm per 10 minutes when operating clear of cloud (and this is not accounting for the ram effect heating on the wing...).
I'm not sure what that is on the wing though...maybe as suggested residual deice fluid that has dried on the wing? Just ugly paint? I'm not sure...
Read your blurb on the trip to the UAE...interesting stuff. Never been to the sandbox - may have to put it on the list of places to see...

I've seen lots of interesting things on wings. I just try to close my eyes and think calming thoughts.loopa wrote: I just found it to be quite interesting, what ever it is that is on the wings.

She’s built like a Steakhouse, but she handles like a Bistro.
