Ski Plane Guys

Post by Widgeon Guy »

I found this Ski in my shop not sure where it came from or what it is off.
Does anyone recognize what it would be off. I would say a tail ski Otter?

I really don't think that is an Otter tail ski. At least I have never seen an Otter tail ski like that open on one end. It almost looks like a nose ski of a 206. All tail ski's I've seen or used were closed on both ends.

I don't think it's a ski for an otter either,...it seem smaller than the one I use on my 185...and the weight doesn't fit too,...2500lbs seems way to light for an otter...

I would have to agree with Brewhouse. It definately looks like a 206 nose ski.

I don't know what its for.....but...since it's manufactured in 11/1957 I would say its a safe bet it isn't for any of the cessna products, at least not a 206.

i would guess a nose ski as well. Looks like it is meant to travel only in one direction.

How long is it and what is the axle diameter?

That's not an actuator, it's a damper, isn't it?

That means it's a fixed protusion ski and I would think eliminates it as being a nose-ski.

It's a tail ski off something. 1200lbs is a high wt for a tail ski though..

Fairchild Husky?

Siddely Hawker might know.

Cool - I love being right, and better yet, knowing who to call.. (Thanks S.H.)

Anyhow, would be great if we could confirm this. Are there better (closer) pictures out there?

One thing that I think bodes well for the Husky is the "1200 LBS".

When you look at where the tail wheel is on that airplane, you can see that there's a hell of a bunch of weight on it.

Is that a photo you took Siddeley Hawker ? Which one is it?

I was involved with CF-MAN at one point but I have a feeling it's CF-EIM in your picture.

HS, no I didn't take that pic, it's from Austin Airways. And that's SAQ, or as the boys from Austin called it, Sad And Queer. :D

Ha-ha; well at worst, my chances were about 1 in 12 or better at getting the registration right.
