Lonely Pilot in the Peace Country
Hello,
Earlier this summer I moved to Grande Prairie for a job. I was hoping to be able to get in some flight time but as it turns out there is no place I could find on the airport who rents! I would love to meet someone with an aircraft who would be willing to take me for a flight since it has been over a year since I have flown myself. Or if there is someone in the Peace Country who is selling time on their plane I would love to know. I completed my commercial license a couple years ago then changed my career path thus the office job in GP.
Even if asking for some flying is too much it would be great to meet some fellow pilots in this area. I look forward to hearing from someone.

Check out Adventure Aviation. They are located at the Esso (they are the Esso dealer). It's a flight school and they rent airplanes. Good luck meeting new Pilots, I always like seeing people getting out there for general aviation and keeping the skies friendly.

Send us your email and we will send you our newsletters to keep you in touch with what is happening and involve you. And even though we don't rent at this time...come out and have coffee and some hangar flying. cheers Adventure Aviation
Re: Lonely Pilot in the Peace Country
I have talked to them already. They don't rent unless you have completed a license or rating there. I even asked if that rule was seasonal since I figured training would slow down in the winter but they are firm with it all year. Oh well, I may have to wait until I go home over xmas.
Re: Lonely Pilot in the Peace Country
There is a Recreational Aviation Association in GP. Look for Geordi or Chandelle aviation, he will have all the info.

Re: Lonely Pilot in the Peace Country
one has to ask why they will only rent to someone who did their training there?
Re: Lonely Pilot in the Peace Country
Seems hard to believe. I started my IFR there. Seems like a nice bunch. Maybe because they don't have a lot of aircraft?
Drinking lots of coffee lately, at a nice safe jungle desk, wishing I were flying......
Re: Lonely Pilot in the Peace Country
If your wanting to fly, not just "rent", join a flying club.
Its about an hour and a half from YQU, but shoot an email to milezeroflyingclub@hotmail.com, and inquire about joining. They have their own 172M available for members, its based in a hangar at YDQ.
Over the years the have had members form YQU, YXJ, and similar join, and make the commute. If you plan on flying 2-3 times a year, renting from Edmonton, or the like is probably better, but if you fly 10+ hrs a year, there is no less expensive way to fly, even considering the annual membership dues. You can't own your own for less.
They do not "rent" to causual drop ins, like say the Edmoton Flying Club does, but if your prepared to become a member, you'll have access to a good, basic aircraft, and be a little less "lonely" lol

"one has to ask why they will only rent to someone who did their training there?"
Um I would guess because they know and trust how they have trained the pilots that trained there and not some Joe who walks in off the street.

Thats quite a policy to have they must be doing really good. Guess its up to them but id think it would be in there best interest to promote GA and encourage people in the area to fly which in turn will only help them.100LL81 wrote:"one has to ask why they will only rent to someone who did their training there?"

If a pilot walked into a forest and had to make a decision, and no one from AVCANADA was there. Would the pilot still be wrong?

I thought by the title of this thread I was going to see a personal ad here... oh well.
