Re: Transcapital
dont know maybe that is why dhc-7 endorsed guys are gettin the shaft with transcapital, it was only 6 moths ago we were offerd $500 a day to work up north now everyone is asleep at the wheel.
Re: Transcapital
Jonathan apparently has given his final resignation notice.
Don production manager quit to start as DOM for a company out of Hamilton.
Sam is still QA but why they would be looking for a QA now can only mean he wants to change his position or retire.
And VP is (apparently) no longer at the helm.........unless you count parking lots.....
How does the saying go?
Even superman retires........
(but I could be wrong.........)

Re: Transcapital
awww, i remember victor poppalardo of city express days,,,spent a year there,,anyone here remember when the tail of the dash 8 was fried off due to the heaters ? or when the Israelis came over to "help" and "teach" us about the dash 7 s ? lol ,,,,
Re: Transcapital
LOL
Those heaters are still in use but because of that "incident" they installed separate shutoff switches for the north wall heaters...........
So they could still park the tail in the corner.
Just ask the Venture guys what it was like to work there in the winter.....
Again LOL

Re: Transcapital
Hi, I'm new to the forum, but I've been wrenching for over 30 years.
crazy-aviator - I was working at Shitty Distress when the tail of the Dash 8 got fried. Someone turned the breaker for that heater back on when we brought a -8 in, then we stopped for lunch, when we came back in we could smell the smoke.
Working for Victor was interesting to say the least. I found it particularly interesting how Victor convinced the government that he needed to bring in the Israeli guys because there was no one in Canada qualified on the Dash 7s or some crap like that.
Do you remember the spare Dash 8 that deHaviland parked on the ramp, it belonged to Tyroleyen or something like that. Victor was to use it if there was problems with one of the other -8s, but we were told to take parts off it to service our own but when deHaviland found out they were pissed and sent a crew ti fix it up and fly it out, I couldn't help but laugh at how stupid that incident was.
Another strange thing there was I wasn't allowed to talk with the pilots, one of them was a friend from previous employment, but they would not give me his phone number nor would the give him mine, they told me that pilots and engineers shouldn't talk. Made me wonder whats going on here.
I used to wear a button on my coveralls that said "Who knows, Who Cares, Why Bother?" which covers how I felt about working there. I only stayed about 4 months, but it felt a lot longer.

Re: Transcapital
dashx,
The breakers were installed when I started there. I would think that they were installed when the heaters were installed.
The procedure was that if you were going to tail a -8 into that corner, turn the breaker off before towing the plane in, this allowed it to cool down before putting the tail under it.
I know the breaker was turned off before we brought it in and when we came back from lunch, the damage was done. I investigated the incident (I was the crew chief) and asked everyone on the crew, Who turned the breaker back on? One young guy said he did, I asked him why? He said "because, I knew we do "something" with the breaker before we bring in a plane, so I turned it off" I said " No, you turned it ON, it was already OFF."
I have always wondered, "What was he thinking?" All the rest of the breakers were ON, except that one. Wouldn't you look at it first? Wouldn't you ask yourself, Why is this one different instead of just blindly flipping the switch? I guess Human Factors training deals with that now, "Lack of Knowledge"
In any case, the end result was a new horizontal stabilizer and elevator had to be installed.
I used to work in the arctic, but working on that island was COLD. I couldn't stand the humidity, well, that and the company culture. I came, I saw, I left!

Re: Transcapital
I went to the terminal that night to play pac-man with the other fellow ame s/apprentices,, when we got back ,,it was quite hot and smelly ,,,i recall a certain easterner by the name of P_ _ _ who admitted setting the switch,,, He did his time at city and went on to a eastern dash 8 operator with endorsement in hand ,,,,Maybe i am wrong , but i admired the fella anyways !!!!
Mistakes happen and it was practice to hit the heaters before having lunch,,,just the wrong switch was moved amongst the rest of the switches ,, i cant recall if they were properly marked ( not likely,,,it was city express ) Also remember one fella doing a double shift and forgetting to install the right? brakes ( The WHOLE assembly) on a saunders ST-27,!, The pilot went to taxi, hit the brakes and the A/C went careening towards the fuel pumps ,,anyone care to relate further???

Couldn't let it rest.
I checked with a friend who says the individual switches for the north wall were installed after the Dash 8 incident. The crew chief that night was DW and he handed over to ST in the morning. Sound correct or not?
I remember switches being in different places for each bank (wall) of heaters. You had to walk around to each breaker box to turn them all on.
It was always cold in the winter that I remember but the summers were always cooler than the rest of the city.
And if my friend tells me correctly they still have the same heaters in use down there......

Now you got me thinking, you could very well be right. After I left there I never gave the place much thought again, then this thread blew the dust off, but apparently not all of it. I was there the night the tail got fried, I was a crew chief, but now I think I'm running the fragments of what I remember of the place together. So I apologize for my failing memory. I'm getting old and when you don't think about something for about 25 years not all of it comes back, just bits and pieces so you work with what you got. Your last post jarred it a bit more, I remember ST but not DW.
I won't be posting based on what I "remember" again.
I used "Rusty" for a reason.
Take care and be safe.

Re: Transcapital
Can anybody give me any insight who has worked as an AME for Trancapital? I know every company has its pros and cons, but from what I'm hearing it doesn't sound promising. I'm an AME with M1 and M2, no endorsements with five years exp.
Any help would be appreciated,
Cheers,
