I wouldn't hesitate if I were in your shoes.
All the pilots here realize how well our system works. Study after study concludes that if we hire an individual from an internal recommend, we often get a similar individual with similar traits to the one who did the recommending. I doubt you have changed much in 5 years but if these guys can even give you a character reference then we are ahead of the game.
If anything, you guys can catch up. What's the worse thing that can happen? they say "no" Chances are though; they appreciate your desire to work here.
Having said all of that we do choose a few without recommends too.
Dave.

Re: 6500 hours for an interview?
I went on the westjet great jobs website and it will not allow me to add a resume, then again I am computer dumb!
Re: 6500 hours for an interview?
Can anyone who has updated their profile recently explain to me how to update things like flight time, etc on the application site? The website only lets me update certain things on my profile, but I can't find the area that asks for flight time, FMS time, etc...
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: 6500 hours for an interview?
The Matrix or whatever it is called that asks you questions about total time, FMS, above 12500, French, etc only shows up when you make your first application for the position. I'm not sure how, but if you have already applied for the job and you try to do an initial application a second time from the same computer and or use the same email address, you will get a message that 'you have already applied for this position'. However, if you go to another computer you can make another initial application and then you will see the "matrix of questions again.
This could mean that you now have 2 applications to WestJet.....I'm not sure that's what they want, especially if all the applications are being manually screened as that would mean much wasted time.
Dave P, could you confirm;
1. Does the sonic system do some initial automatic screening, whereby there would be an advantage to reapply a second time from a different computer when there was a significant change to one or more of your original matrix answers?
2. If you did this, would the second initial application be recognized by the name and associated info. and attached to the first application?
3. If the answer to the first 2 questions is 'no', applicants should simply update their cut and pasted resume from time to time??

Bluetooth,
You are correct. Sonic does provide an initial score, but it is a mere baseline. I never really look at that score. Simply update your cut and paste application. That's where I score from anyway. I can see when you have accessed and changed info.

Re: 6500 hours for an interview?
Along the lines of a internal reference, is it beneficial to use someone who isn't a pilot? Say a FA or a customer service rep?
Re: 6500 hours for an interview?
Yes, internal references help for other jobs too.

I knew that Kool-Aid stuff about WestJetters was bogus...

Re: 6500 hours for an interview?
Are you referring to the "famous" matrix inverted?
Re: 6500 hours for an interview?
Sorry Dave, not sure if I made myself clear? I am a pilot and I have a internal reference, but that person is not a pilot....is this beneficial?DaveP wrote:Yes, internal references help for other jobs too.

Re: 6500 hours for an interview?
It helps a little, but we prefer a flying reference.
Re: 6500 hours for an interview?
Thanks for the prompt reply Dave. Unfortunately that's all I have for now, hopefully it helps. Thanks for your input.

Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is.
You have to see it for yourself.

Re: 6500 hours for an interview?
lol..I love these posts! There's a new one every couple of days. "So and So requires 2x hours! That's crazy! Surely my x hours of multi turbine PIC is better than 2x hours of instructing" Ever consider that perhaps there are people out there with 2x hours of multi turbine PIC!Approach Ban wrote:This comes from somebody I know who got this directly from a Westjet capt. Apparently you need 6500 hours to be called for an interview at WJ. To me that doesn't make much sense. For example I would think at 4000 hour pilot with lots of MPIC working on the RJ at Jazz would be a better candidate then a 6500 hour instructor. Could somebody in the know comment on this? If it's true I need to get a job where I fly more...
As if somebody with 6500 hours in this case would automatically get the interview/job regardless of what type of hours they may have. If 6500 hours was the minimum I'm sure the interviews would be going to the 6500 hours Jazz RJ boys and girls ahead of the 6500 hour instructors.
