So what are my chances of getting into the bush this year??
I just sent out a number of resumes tonight April 11, to a number of bush operators. The flight school I'm working at in the US is really slow. I just finished off my only student I have had since January, a IFR student. No other students on the horizon. Daytona Beach, FL is very quiet for students these days.
Just in case you question, I am Canadian and have my Cdn pilots licence along with FAA.
TT 1,305 hours, CFI 305 hours & seaplane: 130 hours in Otter, Beaver and 206.
Anyone have any leads for me?

Normally I would have said not a chance with 305 hours and would think you might have to work the dock but otter/beaver and 206 time. I would give you a fighting chance for an entry 180 job or such supplying the camps.
However most of the bush flying is for the tourist fishing sector, more specifically Americans coming up to go fishing. You have seen how the economy is first hand down their in Florida, your lack of students is just a sign that people with disposable income to spend on travel and fishing trips are a rare bread these days.
Bottom line is competition will be strong as there are many experienced pilots either out of work or returning to their previous job as they have not moved on or up with the lack of hiring all around. This also means the rookie pilot or the guy who worked the dock last summer will be hoping for a seat this summer and would be top pick.
Take it from a guy who got his first flying gig in 2002 just after 9/11 with about the same time it can happen, but lots of leg work and effort are a must send the resume give them a call and if you can road trip and I would start driving now.
oops just re read your post again you have 1305 TT, dam weak ass coffee!
I would say your chances just went up giver shit and hit the road. I just saw they Kenora Air ad in the job forum.

Your employable and could even get lucky throwing out the resumes but best option is to do a road trip. Check out the places you are qualified and go in person. It can make all the difference. good luck
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

Update: getting into the bush this year??
After 100+ resumes, countless phone calls, nothing came of my quest of getting back into the bush. Talked to a number of office people but the chief pilots never bothered to call back at all or were in the office when I called back. Only received four replies by e-mail telling the position was now filled. As for the dock hand position's I had too many hours for them and I would even honour my contact and stay for the summer if hired. I just wanted to work in the bush for the summer again doing anything at all.
I am disappointed that I there were basically no replies at all. Received no feedback as to what they wanted. Maybe we need the chief pilots to tell us what they are looking for and also how many resumes they received after they posted a job.

CP's either have an internal reference, a reccomend from a buddy, or are looking for somebody to show up at their doorstep with good attitude and fit well with everyone else in the company personality wise.. its really that simple. Once you have built up a considerable amount of time or have plain old shit luck, a resume might work.
