ANyone want to split on 300nm X-country for CPL? (From GTA)
Hello, I'm looking to do the 300nm CPL X-country in the immediate future. Does anyone want to split on it? It's perfect if you're looking to build XC-PIC time, or also need to fulfill the 300nm requirement.
Message me or email me at danwec@cogeco.ca
Cheers,
Dan

Good luck Dan, I split mine with someone at my flight school. Made it from Vancouver to San Francisco (and back).

Have fun, go some place great. Just remember that you each must fly 300nm radius with the 2 stops. You CANNOT swap legs till you have done this. IE swap legs back and forth each doing 300nm. It MUST be continuous. I know someone who had to re-do the trip because TC did not accept this

Oh, and measure twice, fly once.... I've seen people redo their trips because TC measured it as 299nm straight line. So, maybe throw in an extra dozen or so nm to be on the safe side. In the end TC only cares about the numbers.

Speaking of numbers, make sure what each 300nm stretch is completed withing 24h. ...just saying.

Hey ETOPS can you point me to where that is a regulation? I know that CARs quite clearly spells out the requirement to do 300nm radius, with the stops etc. but I do not recall ever seeing the requirement to do it with in 24h.ETOPS wrote:Speaking of numbers, make sure what each 300nm stretch is completed withing 24h. ...just saying.

When I did my Commercial I did a couple of 300 nm trips. All of the trips were multiple days in length and on some days you would only make it 100 nm down the coast and get weathered in for a couple of days.
When I applied (Pacific Region) for my Commercial this wasn't raised as an issue for me??? I hear each region likes to read regs differently though. Maybe you should call your local TC office and ask an inspector? Make those guys earn their $100 fee.ETOPS wrote:Speaking of numbers, make sure what each 300nm stretch is completed withing 24h. ...just saying.

There is no such rule (24hrs). As long as you have a coherent flow for your flights (ie: You take off from X, land at Y, take off from Y, land at Z, with no other flights from different airports in between), you should be okay. I did my 300 nm flight over 4 days doing some local flights to an enroute stop.

No, I don't have a CARs reference for this. The information came from a former CFI - with some serious conviction - when I asked if I can do the rest of my trip tomorrow.
I should have looked into it before posting. I'll see what I can find out...
