Calgary Sun had a picture, you can see the registration on the tail. Looks like FIFA.

Hope the fellow is ok.

Nope, C-FIFA, a DA-20-C3 belonging to CFC from the registration database.

Thanks for that. It's a good group of people there at the flying club. Once again my thoughts are with all the folks down there.

Putting two sentences together from what Larry Stock said, you be the judge. It sounds inconsistent.

"I can tell you the winds were strong today and they were gusty and that can provide challenges for light aircraft," he said.
Yet
although it was below the level that would have grounded training aircraft.
Interesting ...

That being said, we don't know the cause of the accident. The wind makes it challenging, which may prelude to the cause of the accident, but yet it's safe?

I don't know, it could be me reading into it too much.

I truly hope the best for CFC and the student... not a fun day to see something like this. I would rather die than see my student go down.

Not really. "Challenging" doesn't mean prohibitive and is also relative to the skill level of the pilot.

More info here. Doesn't have the photo online though that the paper version does.

edit: The photo is online now in the link above.

I landed at CYBW an hour before the accident. There were gusty crosswinds and it was challenging, but not overly so (at that time). Best wishes to the pilot.

Visited Calgary last summer and went to Springbank as well to take some pictures. Only took pictures of a few aircraft and C-FIFA was one of them. I guess this is the "before" picture taken September 3, 2009.

Anyone know who the pilot is that can pm me. I wouldn't mind going to visit him and bring him a few Westjet goodies if he is indeed up for visitors yet.

Dave.

Hamstax, thanks for the pic. Slick looking little airplane, but not much protection if inverted.
Get better soon! Doc's orders. The nurses are there for you to play with.

I wish the student a safe and quick recovery!

I'm getting out of the loop though, didn't know that the CFC had some Diamond Eclipse's now. They are a slick little plane, and a lot of fun to fly. Not very comfortable on the longer trips however.

This Instructor will be mortified by the interview that T.C. will give him/her.

Tell it like it is. Just a, " Heads Up. ".
