Their loads have been running around 87 percent full out of:

Post by Rotten Apple #1 »

Las Vegas, or so the guy says in this article here from the Las Vegas Sun from April 30, 2010. Also:
But the foreign air carrier that delivers the most international passengers to Las Vegas isn’t a household name, nor does it fly jets that attract much attention.

It’s WestJet Airlines, and over the past four years it has quietly been McCarran’s biggest growth story.

Based in Calgary, Alberta, WestJet flies its Boeing 737 twin-engine jets 74 times a week between McCarran and 10 Canadian cities.

With more than 150,000 passengers flying WestJet to Las Vegas in the first two months of 2010 — the ninth busiest commercial flier at the airport — the airline is on track to deliver more than 700,000 people this year, easily the biggest deliverer of international visitors to Southern Nevada.

By comparison, Canadian rival Air Canada had 73,396 passengers in the first two months of 2010, and Mexico’s dominant carrier, Mexicana, had 32,592. Virgin Atlantic flew 32,922 passengers from London in the same time, and market newcomer British Airways flew 27,729.

“It’s a good story,” Clark County Aviation Director Randall Walker said. “They’ve had phenomenal growth here. They had 200,000 passengers here their first full year of operations, and we’re expecting about 730,000 people this year. Overall, passenger traffic has been down for us this year, but WestJet’s is up around 17 percent. Their loads have been running around 87 percent full out of here.”

Yes yycflyguy, I am guilty of unabashed horn tooting. Just the same, I have a hard time getting my head around the fact that the airport is "...expecting about 730,000 people this year" to be flown into LAS by WJ. How long before it's...

ONE MILLION?

And then, subtracting a certain percentage of the total as being non-rev, imagine if you made a profit, even a small one, on each guest carried...

Isn't Westjet the #1 foreign carrier by passenger count?

Speaking of profits!

By THE CANADIAN PRESS, cp.org, Updated: May 4, 2010 8:31 AM
WestJet Q1 revenue rises seven per cent, profit falls by 63 per cent

CALGARY - WestJet Airlines Ltd. (TSX:WJA) earned $13.8 million in the first quarter, down 63 per cent from the same time last year - in part because of the departure of its chief executive officer.

The year's first quarter included a $3.7-million expense related to the departure of Sean Durfy, who surprised WestJet observers in March when he announced his decision to resign as president and CEO for personal reasons.

The Calgary-based airline says its net income amounted to 10 cents per diluted share, including special items.

That's down from $37.4 million or 29 cents per share in the first quarter of 2009, when the company got a $2.2-million boost from a tax-related special item.

WestJet revenue improved to $619.8 million in the first three months of this year, up seven per cent from $579.3 million in the first quarter of 2009.

Would like you to note that unlike some of you Koolaid drinkers, I only pasted this as a response (which is tongue in cheek BTW) and not as a blaring topic of it's own in the Westjet forum, which is often done in our AC forum by said group....you know who you are

The good news is .................. It's not "profit loss" sharing for the 19th straight quarter.
Well done WS.
Good for you guys ... regardless of the size of the cheque .... it's still a cheque coming to YOU.
Enjoy.

Different strokes for different folks. As far as I'm concerned there's no glass there. The best way to explain it....a friend once said that when he was a kid dreaming of becoming an airline pilot one day, Westjet wasn't it. Not putting them down, but they're not everyone's cup of tea. Besides not much of a Kool-Aid guy myself. Good work ethics...yes. Kool-Aid.....no :smt040

"not putting them down" = the most hypocritical post. You sure smoke a big cigar for being at Jazz the last few years. Your frustration shows.

LOL! I suppose I never looked at it that way. About it being hypocritical that is. It wasn't what I was trying to say. My bad if it came across as such.
BTW, never was at Jazz so am a bit confused about the frustration comment. No biggie, but out of curiosity, what exactly is it that I would be frustrated about?

Check out the big brain on Flightlevels. Hey what can I say? I am an intellectual. I also have the uncanny ability to spot a "Kool-Aid chugger" a mile away. Hahaha!

BTW, when's the next Kool-Aid party Flightlevels? Oh and do you guys still do that hangar tour for new hires. You know the one where they show you the nice shiny airplane that you'll get to groom on turns and expect you to get all excited because that's what Westjetitude is all about. You guys crack me up. LOL!!!

On a serious note, this is all tongue in cheek folks. I'm just having some fun with Flightlevels. Sorry that's "MR" Flightlevels who is also an "owner". :D

Neither is it with you who can be counted upon to be one of the first to post any negative news about us in OUR forum. Why such a hate on for us man?

p.s. I'll let those that know me be the judge of my professionalism. Thanks though! :smt039
