Anyone else care to back me up on this one??

Here are some things that Jazz pilots cannot do:

1) Fly jets. Even if they are squirrely little ones.
2) Fly planes without stairs. Ramps are scary.
3) Fly across water.
4) Obtain oceanic clearances. Must be hard. I can't even begin to imagine how cool you would have to be.
5) Use Autothrottles, Autoland, or Autobrake. True, we have to do that stuff on our own like suckers.
6) Understand weather charts for anywhere south of Florida. Weird symbols.
7) Say the word "heavy" on the radio. That one keeps me up at night.
8) Fly anything with a cockpit more than 5 feet off the ground. What if we forget to flare?

I don't think Jazz should be allowed to operate anything but a riding mower since we cannot do any "real" flying.
Maybe we should leave it to the "pros". Maybe they will let me carry their bags.

PS why does the number 8 show up as a happy face? Is that something only cool pilots know?

We're also not allowed to cancel IFR and go scudrunning to chase cariboo. I hope we get the Ops Spec for that though.

Is Jazz's starting wage still $36,360? I hope it has gone up by now.

Anyone have ideas as to what bases would these be for or would we have to wait until next equipment bid.

jazz cannot guarantee a specific base when they offer to hire you

you would have to wait until you started training to find out what base you could hold based on vacancies and your seniority

yup

dash 8 100 or 300 or 400, RJ 100 or 200 or 705, B757

all joking aside

jazz cannot guarantee equipment type when the offer you a job

your equipment type and base is determined by vacancies and your seniority once you start your training

apply then interview then accept the job if you are prepared to either move or commute to any of the jazz bases

because even if you are awarded the base you wanted you made end up getting bumped to another base at some point in your career

i'm on base # 3 in 10 years

I can offer this "unofficial" hiring insight:

My guess is that most or all of the hiring will be for the Dash 8 and bases will more than likely be YVR, YYC and YUL. The reason for this is that there are still a fair number of people displaced from the Jet in a number of bases, a few are displaced still from YYZ on both the RJ and Dash. The last hiring was the same way.

That being said, nothing is out of the question with the new plane types coming and depending on how all that unveils, anything is possible believe me.

This is just an educated comment and food for thought. This is a good company to work for and all the best to the pilot applicants this summer.

Let's hope all the YYZ RJ FOs can get their spots back, as well as have the displaced DHC8 FOs return to YYZ...I've got less seniority than the day I got hired over 2 years ago and I'd like it back, thank you very much lol!!

Grumbling aside, I'll bet that the new hires' bases will be determined by where the Q400s go (and the subsequent bidding for those spots). But since Air Canada has changed their mind no fewer than 6 times on that subject (literally), it's anyone's guess at this point. I think AC has to let us know by July 31 at the latest. Seeing as the first course date is rumoured to be July 19, I'm hoping we know by then.

El Comat, What kind of rumors are you hearing? Why would the first Q400 course be in July, considering we take delivery of the first one in May next year?
I haven't heard anything to suggest we're getting them early.

You think Jazz will have to wait in line behind Porter before they get any Q400's??

Jazz already placed their order and the first 2 aircraft show up May 2011 and thereafter I believe it is 2 per month. An option on another 15 aircraft is also in place. If you ask me it is irrelevant who is ahead of who once a firm order is placed all that matters is the delivery and that has already been set.

It doesn't matter when the order was placed. The airlines set the schedule for delivery, if Porter order ordered 2 last year for delivery in June next year thats when they get them. If Jazz can order now for delivery in May next year, thats when they get them. Airlines set the schedule based on their needs!
