Both are looking for instructors, but at least blue bird has at least a snowball's chance in hell of surviving. The only thing keeping maylan alive is the fact the owner is still making money off of cell phones in china.
Anyone with any degree of self respect will stay as far away from maylan as possible.

If your planning on working at Maylan, make sure you have some free time to work at McDonald's

Class 4 - 16/hour flight time only

Class 3 - 19/hour flight time only

A year ago there was an article in the Hamilton Spectator about Maylan and some of the students there: http://www.thespec.com/article/563250

Are any of them still there? The article is written in a manner sympathetic to the students' complaints - but I'm sure that there's another side to the story...

Nope. Article is 100% on the money. And I say that from first hand knowledge.

Maylan and Blue Bird are both terrible. Maylan is just poorly managed and the pay has been getting worse with time. I remember making $40/hr there as a class 3. The article in the Spectator is pretty accurate. Those students were screwed from the beginning. Most of them really had no chance. 95% of them were extremely English-deficient upon their arrival to Canada, which made learning to fly difficult. You're supposed to fly them anyway. They have no proper ESL classes...they run it as if it's supposed to be the instructors' job to teach English to the students!!!
Blue Bird is more crooked than the Prime Minister's pecker. Very shady operation. The AE is actually in Vancouver and the school is watched by 2 brothers that have no work authorization in Canada. The brother's father comes by once in a blue moon to use company resources to try to get Subway franchises established. They frequently let payments lapse on important things like maintenance (anyone know if they ever got VVB out of hock?),fuel, and their lease. The students tend to party all the time, and come in unprepared and stinky. Their recruiter in India is a big scammer who likes to withold payments to the school even though the students have already paid.

Check their CADORS.
Steer clear.

It is what it is, and you can look at it any way you want. Maylan is there, they have lots of students, and you can fly all you want. I look at instructing as a way to build experience to get to your ATPL, its a McJob. Unfortunately, that is the industry. If you want to make instructing a career, then its definitely not the way to go. I do, however, feel safe flying their airplanes because I know the maintenance is on par with any other flight school out there. The flight ops side of the business is run decently, not saying anything about the management side. Most of the useless students have been sent home, and I do enjoy flying with the ones I have.

Its not a little piece of heven in YXU, but it can work for you if you know why you're there.

Doesn't surprise me...he's an opportunist...his loyalties lie only with himself. He'd sell out anyone to get ahead.

No big deal...two sailors who deserved to go down with the ship. They didn't start the poor treatment of the staff, they just enabled it and made it worse.

Did anyone else have to sign a "release agreement" in exchange for severance?
I signed it, but completely ignored it. Then they improperly reported my earnings for my EI and I had to repay almost $1100, and I still didn't have a job to pay it back.
I sent NL an email telling him to shove the agreement up his ass right past his head.

Wasn't this Empire Aviation with their Diamonds teaching cadets and the military kick for the UWO degree?
Knew some that took this school right through to Flight Instruction and got 1000 and 1200hrs in a year. Both got hired out to a charter than an airline so not a bad deal.

Is it because Maylan/ Blue Bird has come into play things have changed?

Websites a bit flakey

The UWO-CAM program is not, I repeat NOT, in any way, shape or form associated with Maylan Flight Academy.

Empire Aviation was the previous contract provider until Maylan purchased the company in 2007. UWO then ended the contract with MLFA in 2008. The flight training for the program is now provided by the Diamond Flight Centre London Inc. Additionally, DFC will provide flight training for the Air Cadet Power Scholarship this summer.

Just clarifyin'.

flyinggreasemonkey I think that the cork is jammed a little too tight in your bottle, get your blood pressure checked before you blow a cork.
Also get the bee removed from your bonnet at the same time, you seem to be obsessed with trashing Maylan.
As North Shore said there is two sides to every story and you come across as a malevolent little pri*k.
