It is the golden rule .The guy with gold makes the rules.
If that is to cryptic for you :the gold company that funded the plane will decide and approve who flies their airplane.

Well the DHC-8 bids came out today. 4 captain slots and 3 for first officers, there is already 2 managment captains and I heard 5 flight attendents plus a chief F/A are being trained.

Must wonder how big the "bond" will be on that puppy. A DHC-8 type rating could be a "ticket" out.....

Doc,

This has been said many times but Ill say it again. Everyone knows you hate bonds... and Wasaya... but alot of people are pretty sick of listening to you go on and on about them.... and Wasaya... If you really want to get into it, its not our generation that is responsible for the fact that there are bonds today, it is the responsiblity of the previous generations of pilots. Like it or not bonds are here to stay and if you are going to stick around with a company you will get your money back. Does it suck going to a bank and trying to explain to them why you need a loan for work? No! But I would say its thanks to guys around your age that screwed people over too many times.... so just think about that next time you want to whine about people "buying their jobs" and furthermore as far as people working the ramp... When was the last time Walstons hired someone right out of school?

Hey frankfrank, a lot of companies don't have bonds. You have the option. I'm not saying that if it was my only option I wouldn't do it anyway, but don't go on saying you are forced to take a bond in this industry, because you're not, it's your own choice.

If anything ever happens to Wasaya and the pilots lose their jobs, guaranteed they're all going to be on here complaining about how they got ripped off and had their money stolen from them. All Doc's doing as far as I'm concerned is doing his part to warning that group as to the risk, he's just trying to help. I hope nothing ever does happen to Wasaya, but the pilots there should consider themselves forewarned.

Hey, congrats on the Dashes too, that's wicked. Make sure they hire some hot flight attendants too.

Hit a wee nerve there did I frankfrank? Just so you know, I have known only one person in the last 30 plus years in this business that has run off with a new PPC/or equivalent. Big difference between a "bond" and "buying" a job with money up front. Huge. Since you want to "get into it", no, I don't like bonds. Surprise, surprise. I think companies that require their present employees to ante up large sums of money to "buy" into new equipment, are run by people who couldn't care less for their employees. There is no loyalty or trust there. It's a vote of "non-confidence" in your workers. The only reason you guys find "new fish" for your stagnant pond, is the simple fact that no other "ponds" exist right now. And you're "milking" it for all it's worth. If the industry turns around, and it will, you won't find a single new pilot worth talking to. Wasaya has a well earned reputation as a company that operates decent equipment, employees good pilots, pays fairly well.....and treats them like crap.
As for us hiring pilots right out of school? We don't have to. We don't sell jobs, and we retain our crews by treating them, the way we'd like to be treated ourselves. It's a novel idea. You should try it.

Remember Jetsgo! Many pilots who went there demonstrated the old saying: "A fool and his money are soon parted." They bought their jobs for about $30,000 or $40,000 (open to correction) using their personal savings or loans from banks. The company then went under, throwing them out of work. They then found they had lost their savings or still had to pay back the loan to the bank while being without the job they had paid for. Many pilots lost tens of thousands of dollars. I recall reading that one pilot had joined Jetsgo just two months before it went under. I wonder if he got his last month's pay?

Never buy a job, pay for job specific training such as a type rating, have a training bond with a third party such as a bank. or put money up front in any way! Ethical and competently run companies recognise that job specific training is part of being in business. They budget for it and provide it to new employees at their expense.

Actually, you retain your crews because you're the only game in town and most of your pilots are Kenora lifers and have no ambition to go anywhere else. Also because Kenora is a nice place to live and you can do half your duty day at the golf course. Walsten's is not the be all and end all of aviation. EDITED And I know what you're going to say. "We wouldn't want you anyway." Good. EDITED

Kenora's a nice place to live, and you can spend half your duty day on the golf course, AND you can fight on the dock? Sound like it IS the be-all and end-all of aviation! Where do I sign THAT bond?

To be honest with you, I found a couple of your remarks both offensive, and uncalled for.
Others, I found to be quite humorous. I particularly got a kick out of "your pilots are Kenora lifers and have no ambition to go anywhere else...." Loved it. Perhaps they know a good thing when they have it? Someday, you to will toss away your diapers, stop chasing the strained carrots, and "be there".
On that subject, I've turned down jobs most of you would drink Phyllis Diller's bath water just to get near. I could live in southern Ontario, spend two or more hours a day getting to Pearson, live out of a suitcase two weeks a month for an extra 200$ a week. Or I could spend 12 MINUTES commuting, half my duty day on the golf course, sleep at home every night?
Kind of begs the question.....What exactly IS the "be all and end all of aviation...."?

Not yet.

Whoever the guy is that posted about management being on the seniority list, check the facts, 99% of Collective Agreements have a section that allows management to fly and be on the seniority list. They have to, maintaining currency, filling in etc. The CBAs have restrictions for how much a management pilot can fly. This is normal stuff, nobody except for you is getting excited about it.

The fact they are on the seniority list means nothing. They are normally members in bad standing if dues aren't paid.

So what can the union do when the new management crew exceeds the restrictions for how much a management pilot can fly? Write them a strongly worded letter?

A strongly worded letter? You're obviously oblivious to the unionized workplace. I'm not even going to indulge you with an answer, try Google,

I did as you suggest:
"In the early 1800s many men from large cities put together the organization which we now call the Trade Union Movement. Individuals who were members of unions at this time were skilled, experienced, and knew how to get the job done. Their main reasoning for starting this movement was to put on strikes." - Wikipedia

So I ask again. What will YOU do?

I REALLY like Meatservo's reply to this:

:prayer:

GTD, I think that you are being a twit. "No ambition.." WTF, over! Most of us have the ambition to live in a nice place, work as little as possible at a job that we like, and enjoy ourselves for the rest of the time. Kudos to Doc and his co-workers for figuring it out where they are...

I think they'll find the number of missed approaches has gone up dramatically in the past while. You can't treat people like crap and then expect them to land in 100 and a quarter while flying 1400 hours a year. The days of always getting in are gone. Good riddance. Busting duty days due to "unforeseen circumstances" that happen everyday? Nope. Hope you saved some of the money it made you. Work to rule I think it's called.

Landing in 100 and a quarter isn't/shouldn't be an option even for a well treated/well paid crew. It worries me that there even is this line of thought. If you don't like the treatment, put some teeth in your union. I've never known a company that needs a union more than these guys. I know. They have one. And bulls have tits. For all the good it'll do.

Has this had any effect on the company?
Order No. 2010-A-323
June 8, 2010

SUSPENSION of Wasaya Airways Limited Partnership, by its General Partner, Wasaya General Partner Limited carrying on business as Wasaya Airways's Licence Nos. 962523 and 967232 in respect of the domestic service, medium aircraft and the non-scheduled international service, medium aircraft.

File Nos. M4210/W211-1
M4210/W211-2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wasaya Airways Limited Partnership, by its General Partner, Wasaya General Partner Limited carrying on business as Wasaya Airways (Licensee) is authorized to operate a domestic service, small aircraft; a domestic service, medium aircraft and a domestic service, all cargo aircraft.

The Licensee is also authorized to operate a non-scheduled international service, small aircraft and a non-scheduled international service, medium aircraft, to transport traffic on a charter basis between Canada and any other country.

Pursuant to subsection 63(1) and paragraph 75(1)(a) of the Canada Transportation Act, S.C., 1996, c. 10, as amended (CTA), the Agency must suspend the licences in respect of the domestic service, medium aircraft and the non-scheduled international service, medium aircraft.

Accordingly, the Agency suspends the licences in respect of the domestic service, medium aircraft and the non-scheduled international service, medium aircraft and provides the Licensee with 30 days to show cause why the licences should not be cancelled.
