Airshow

Post by Moose47 »

G'day

There will be a airshow at Huronia Midland (CYEE) on the weekend of the 17th and 18th of July.
The show will be honoring those who fought in the Battle of Norway and the Battle of Britain. There are over 30 warbirds flying in this event including an Me 109, Spitfire, Hurricane, Kittyhawk and P-51 Mustang. Some of the other aircraft taking part are the Consolidated Canso A, Westland Lysander, MiG 17 and L-29. Hope to see you there.

Cheers...Chris

You are too kind! I wish I could do some aerobatics in the L-39 but I don't have it signed off on my airshow card yet. More paper to push, always more paper!

three Cornells
Speaking of Cornells .... here's helmet cam footage of my 17 year old kid, who recently taught himself to fly the PT-19 in the video.

We start with a formation takeoff on the way home from Gatineau - I am in the PT-22 on wing. Later I take over as lead, then he buggers off and does his first rolls in the PT-19

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWNxI0Bn8O8

The flight over to Gatineau was bizarre. Beech 18 leading, PT-22 on right wing, PT-19 on left wing, and Swift in slot  I can only imagine what it sounded like! Fortunately we had a great stick (not me) in the Beech 18 who could fly it very slowly, safely.
Maybe I will get a chance to meet the famous Mr hedley
Heh - I should be easy to find - just look for the Transport Canada Inspector  If you can't see him, this should help you spot me on the ramp:

Really? As far as I know our Spit's engine is ok. I guess they've taken to reporting snags to everybody but us maintainers.

Maybe I was given "duff gen" last weekend. I hope all is indeed well with that gorgeous craft.

We are in the process of finishing off some major airframe work. Nothing too serious, just what is needed from time to time to keep the 'ol girl flying. Hopefully we'll have her airborne before too long.

I still have black stains on my hands and arms from that!! Always a pleasant experience to be shoulder deep in an R2800 for 3 days.

Weather was good for the Saturday show, Lots of on-crowd wind, and plenty of low-level turbulence. I think I kept it upwind of the 500 foot flight line!

The most impressive thing I saw all day was fleet16b and his buddy flying their two Fleet Finches in all that wind! After my solo performance, I was on short final to land, and I got a pretty good kick from the wind - and this was in the Pitts, which has a stall speed (and wing loading) double that of the Finch.

My hat is off to you!

Hedley

Kind words ,thank you very much
Yes it sure was like riding a bucking bronco and definitely the worst wind conditions the Fleet has flown in with me at the controls.
Your aerobatic display was much more impressive than anything us mere Fleet pilots did. Really enjoyed your routine coupled with the added issue of compensating for all that wind. Awesome job !
With that said we elected to scratch day two and head for home before the rains got to our home base.
All in all a good w/end and a real pleasure meeting you.

Keep'em flying

The best part was on Saturday, after the wing walker had done her routine and was taxiing back; Hedley and someone else (not me!) mooned her! Both she and the pilot are in to dark humour and found it pretty funny.

Rob wasn't flying Carole's Stearman - Kurt Whittaker (sp?) was. Good stick - I think he's an ICAS ACE. He put on a very nice solo routine early in the show, and kept the G positive the whole time - no coughs (no inverted systems).

Mooning Carole was fun - gosh, I wish we had thought to have someone behind her to take a picture of her staring at our bare asses when Kurt stopped the plane - but IMHO the funniest part of the show was when C|D landed in the Pitts on friday, and everyone was prepped by Moose47 to tell him that someone called Sheila (?) had flown in from the 'peg to meet him!
