Re: Embarrrasing - crashing R-44 after departing ur yacht .
I wonder if they'll "throw in" the chopper now.
Re: Embarrrasing - crashing R-44 after departing ur yacht .
The R44 looks cheap.
One of these standing in the helipad would be better.

How is this?, a common sight in North Vancouver!!!

Re: Embarrrasing - crashing R-44 after departing ur yacht .
"Witnesses said the pilot apparently tried to make an emergency landing about mid-span on the deck of the bridge before losing control of the helicopter, which plummeted into the bay."
"The pilot told police the aircraft had mechanical problems just after he took off from a nearby yacht."
I'm curious what's embarrassing about crashing while trying to perform an emergency landing after some sort of mechanical failure.
Spelling "your" like a 12 year old girl however... now that's embarrassing.

Embarrassing - most of us can't afford an R44, never mind the yacht, least of all to crash either one
Re: Embarrrasing - crashing R-44 after departing ur yacht .
Hmmm, 650+ posts and I had a spelling error? Maybe lazy for not noticing the spell check highlight, or typing while not watching the screen or stuck key, who knows? I'll assume that is BC humour and leave it at that.
As for what is embarrassing about crashing your privately owned R-44 underneath the Coronado Bridge?
I would have thought the thread title was self explanatory, so I'd best give the definition of embarrassment;
'Embarrassment is an emotional state experienced upon having a socially or professionally unacceptable act or condition witnessed by or revealed to others. Usually some amount of loss of honour or dignity is involved, but how much and the type depends on the embarrassing situation.'
First, simply it's just a thread title, don't take it personally, however I do believe it meets the criteria of the definition above.
Second, had their been a fatality or serious injury, I would not have made my attempt at humour, I do understand the pilot was injured - but that his injuries were not serious, though I wish him a speedy recovery.
Third, if you know San Diego, the pilot took off from his multi-million dollar yacht, parked behind the convention center, at 6:20 pm. Besides the fact, you kind of stand out among the many other yacht's parked there, when you have not only a helicopter, but your actually departing from your boat - it's going to attract attention.
Like crashing your Lamborghini in front of a fancy restaurant while it's packed with fellow Lamborghini owners!!, and lots of Lamborghini enthusiasts outside with cameras!!! For me, that would be embarrassing.
In this case, the crash occurred at 6:20 pm, downtown San Diego, hundreds of tourists and locals alike, plenty of cell phones, and cameras.
On the West side of the crash, is North Island Naval Complex - base of the USN South Pacific Fleet - packed with very expensive helicopters, and a base full of full time professional helicopter pilots, sort of embarrassing to crash in the presence of so many fellow helicopter pilots!!!
The reaction of the pilot. Comments from the press, "He was mad at himself -- why, I don't know," said Officer Tim Wright with San Diego Harbor Police. "I guess because the helicopter had quit and came crashing down, but he was upset about that, and he was upset about us having to come get him."
Google Maps
PS; guess your going to tell me 'ur' isn't a word either

That's not a yacht!
This is a yacht!

Meet the M/Y Eclipse. Complete with two helicopter pads (one is never enough), 3 launch boats, and a mini submarine.
Forget about a standard house alarm. This yacht has its own German-built missile defense system. Also equipped with an anti-paparazzi shield in the form of lasers. Master bedroom and bride composed of bulletproof windows and bulletproof armor steel plates (I guess you don't have money without a few enemies).
Cost to own one: A cool 1.2Billion US. Hmmm, I'll take two.

Robbreid: It's bad enough reading the Ottawa Citizen and wondering who the hell proof read this morning's edition it but I expect a better class of spelling and grammar on Avcanada:
There are only two Rs in "embarrassing".
How many more times must you be told that "you are" is shortened to "you're": ".... only a helicopter, but your actually departing from your boat..."

Meet the M/Y Eclipse.
And the owner's only 50th on the list of the world's richest people!

How does this chopper take-off? It looks like the blade is touching the overhang and there is no space to spin up let alone launch?robbreid wrote:How is this?, a common sight in North Vancouver!!!

It looks like it is sitting on some kind of wheeled dolly and there is a break in the guard rail. I suspect it rolls backwards to clear the overhang.
