Class IV instructors?

Post by bluenote »

Why is it that lately every school that happens to hire a flight instructor is only asking for a Class 3 or higher? I know the whole supervision thing, but is it because the Class 1s don't want to supervise and just rather hire a class 3 or higher?

How are we class 4s ever going to get our foot in the door? The cadets and that's it.

just my two cents, and does anybody have a suggestion?

Hey do not feel bad I am a class 2 with over 1000 hours teaching and I am having a hard time finding work.

2 years ago i was able to pick where i wanted to work as there was so many schools looking for instructors. It is just the way it goes sometimes.

Please tell me you've been looking all summer up to this point and this is not the yearly fall Bluenote's job search? If you're just winding into your job search now you missed the boat again this season. Class 4s are still being hired, I've hired a new one every year the last three years. The latest one is going through TC's hoops his upgrade to class 3.

No, I just haven't started looking. Actually I have been to quite a few schools personally and just to get a feel of what is happening out there I have sent my resume to practically every school in Canada with about 15 responses that they of course are not hiring so I have been trying.

I was there once guys... keep an active job search going right through the fall, winter and into the spring again. Find yourself a good possibly non flying job for now to pay the bills and (if your like me) the student loan payments. I will admit it was hard to get my foot in the door at a class IV but once I did I kept my nose to the grindstone made sure I was the hardest working guy there.

Good luck!
